People need to remember that this was supposed to be The case for the homebrew scene in the US. This case was supposed to be the one that set things right and allow people the right to do with their legally owned console as they pleased. Developers could develop and end users could reap the fruits of their work without fear of reprisal. A lot was riding on this case, and it was everything at the time it was going on. I'm surprised how quickly people forget about this. A lot of us had our hopes riding on him for good reason.
Geohot had gotten a lot of donation money and told us he would fight till the end. On top of that, many thought that Sony's case wasn't very strong. Lots of people were cautiously optimistic. Then guess what happens... he settled. While the homebrew scene didn't exactly lose, the status quo was maintained which was an effective win for the enemy crab.
Now did he do the right thing? Sure, at least for himself. Like many of said this wasn't worth possible ruining his life over. Don't say he didn't sell out, though. Like Digital-Spooker said
He did this to save himself. That's fine. He needs to look out for himself, and really very few people should fault him on that. That said, he sold out, and robbed (maybe rob is too strong a word, but I digress) the scene of what could have been a very important victory.Quote:
