ok i have right now a nice setup, not the best, but so far i can play crysis almost at the highest settings and is very playable.
But it seems like Battlefield 3 will be the new hot tittle to benchmark pc's when it comes out, yes battlefield 3 and not crysis 2 :P

so i ask, right now i have a nice mobo, can support up to 16GB of ddr3 ram on 4 slots, tho i only have 8 inthere.

i have a AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition AM3 overclocked and stable to 3.8GHz and running at about 52c when at full load.

I got an xfx XFX HD587XZNFC Radeon HD 5870 Video Card also overclocked a bit, cant remember how much tho.

with that said, what can or should i do to upgrade my system without breaking the bank and build a new pc.

i was looking at AMD HDE00ZFBGRBOX Phenom II 1100T Black Edition Six Core Processor and or maybe adding another 5870 card in crossfire to basically bringing me up to date.

so with that said, what suggestions may any of you got?

just cant decide for myself, so what would you do?

    thanks

I have had my 6 core for a couple of weeks now and I can honestly say I'm impressed. I love it. Like yourself I'm also running 8 gig of ram and I have a sli pair of GForce 9800 GTs. I know the graphics cards aren't exactly cutting edge but there really isn't much that they can't do.
So in short jump on the processor you won't regret it. As far as the video card goes I'm not really an ATI guy. Not that there bad at all I just really like Nvidia. Good luck and I hope that helped

I'd get either the CPU or a second GFX card, depending on if BF3 will have good Crossfire support or not.

SLI and Crossfire tend to be somewhat buggy when a game is first released, until everything can be tweaked to improve it. I dunno if a 6-core CPU will help you -that- much... I guess you could dump most of the windows processes to one core and free up the rest for BF3, which might help.

Obviously it'll also help if you can overclock the crap out of it.

Looking at the prices, I'd say maybe grab the CPU. It's a bit cheaper than a second card and you might be able to overclock it nicely... which will help.
    60GB (120GB WD Scorpio Drive) PS3 (CECHA01, NTSC), 3.7OFW
    60GB (640GB Samsung Drive) PS3 (CECHC04, PAL), Kmeaw 3.55, Repaired (Dead Laser)
    PSP-1003 FAT, CFW5.00 M33-6 & Prometheus v2
    X-Box 360 Xenon (JTAG'ed, 500GB HDD)

Forget about that CPU it offers nothing in gaming performance whatsoever over what you already have and has consistently performed WORSE in benchmark test. The only processors apart from budget ones currently worth buying are Sandy Bridge

Yeah but thats an intel processor, i have an AM3 mobo, not switching entire rig, plus intel are way to over priced and i just love AMD :P
i do agree that most likely a second card will be the best for my case, just feeling out what peoples thoughts are on the matter, thanks.

as for the rest, thanks for the answers, do appreciate that
most likely will go xfire, tho i do understand that new released games might not perform that much better at first on xfire, but they usually get fixed for the most part via patch.

i just dont know if its worth just getting another 5870, or just can the 5870 idea and get a better card that would perform better than 2 5870 xfired.
i dont know much about video cards honestly, i know a bit, but not an expert.

so which card without breaking my wallet can do better than 2 5870's xfired?

    thanks

If you have a spare slot to do the crossfire then do it, i have seen 5870's going at decent prices here in the UK (not sure where you are) if you can get your hands on one. There are not really many single graphics cards that are going to be a worrth while upgrade over your 5870, a 6990 maybe lol, but thats gonna hurt the wallet.
To be honest I don't think Battlefield 3 will be as demanding as Crysis was, and you would do alright with what you already got

From my point of view your system should be well equipped to run BF3. If you want to buy something that'll make a noticeable difference to performance (albeit not framerates) then you might want to consider getting an SSD for your OS and games? I remember that BF2 on release had some gargantuan loading times, even on the best hardware at the time.

from what i have been reading,BF3 might be the game that people will use for benchmarking, is a completely new engine, not like the other ones, so people are speculating is going to be the crysis of 2011.
also i dont think am well equipt either lol

If it's truly the Crysis of 2011 then buying new hardware now will be throwing your money away. Crysis didn't begin to be playable on max settings until the release of the GTX 200 series, and even then you needed 2 or 3 of them depending on your resolution.
