ok i have got rid of the ex.. i seem to have a bit of cash spare and i always wanted a decent handheld gaming system. i have a ipaq 4700 wonderful machine plays great games and has a PS1 emu. however it is a dog to play on. it doesnt have a dpad... the ex bought a NDS to play the brain trainers on but it seems that the kids do most if not all of the games. but i find i dont like two screens and find it fiddly and the games all "samey". i always wanted a PSP when they first came out but couldnt afford it. i have seen lots of PSP's in cas converters for anywhere between $120 and $190 AUD. but i dont want to get one that cant be modded with CFW. i have spent the last hour reading but apart from buying a phat to guarantee flashability i dont know how to identify an unflashable slim. i would prefer a slim as they are newer and should last longer... any help? please?

There are some rules in general that you should follow:

-The newer it is, the more likely it can't be flashed.
-PSP-3000s and the newer Slims cannot be hacked at this time.
-A definite way of telling if a Slim is hackable is that if it comes with any 4.xx firmware out of the box, it is unhackable. Units with 3.60 - 3.96 or hackable.

Here are some things that you should read:

See if a Ta088v3 is the Box by the letter on the box

Determine if your PSP is hackable

    Yeah, it can be upgraded.

Update it via Network Update. (Reboot into recovery by shutting down the system, and holding R while rebooting. From there, go to Configuration and make sure M33 Network Update is enabled. If not, press X to enable it. Once done, exit and you can use Network Update to update your M33 firmware. - The latest version is 5.00 M33-6)

If you don't have access to Wifi, you can upgrade offline:

Also, read my M33 Firmware Guide to get an understanding of the features of the M33 Firmwares. I would have post it here but the guide is 40,000+ characters.
