But from what I read from the recent news, is it okay for me to just upgrade it to the latest firmware and then use the homebrew enabler or should I still stick to the custom firmware I'm running which is 5.50 Prometheus?

At this moment in time, there's no real benefit that I'm aware of for jumping onto official firmware and using the new HEN method if you are already hacked and on cfw. If there's some reason you want to move onto the 6.xx stuff, then go for it...
My suggestions - either don't do it, or wait a bit longer - since things are moving so fast now. You've already got cfw, and this new method doesn't appear to enable anything you don't already have access to... CMIIW/YMMV but I don't see a reason to drop the cfw yet.
Just update to 5.50 Prome-4, it contains the 6.35 modules so it runs all your backuped new games (ie. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd)
Yes, it is better for you to stay on 5.50 GEN-D3 and install the Prometheus-4 patch![]()
