Haha I think that is more of something you need to ask yourself.
Are there any games out that you think are interesting? I'd check out a friend's PSP first and play a game or two to see if it is something you'd want to spend that kind of money on.

As for this... well there are a few methods... you can find a lot of your answers at http://www.psp-hacks.com/, they are godly when it comes to PSP modifications

For a direct link to a good tutorial:

This thread has just about everything you need to know for PSP modding thanks to Scorpus

PS: the easiest way to install CFW in my opinion is by getting a hold of a pandora battery which you can find for cheap at Ebay, Amazon, etc. but that is only for PHAT and Slims
**Be sure if you go the 3000 route that you buy a PSP3000 that contains 5.03 OFW or below or else you will have wasted a lot of money on a PSP that CANNOT be modded!

    PS2:
    Console: SCPH-39001
    CD Player: 1.20
    PS2 Driver: 1.10
    DVD Player: 2.12U
    FMCB: v1.8
    ESR: beta 9b

    PSP:
    PHAT: CFW 5.00 m33-6
    Slim: CFW 5.00 m33-6 (had 5.50GEN-D3)
    3000: Currently under construction
