PLS HLP! A N00B's PSP Buying Guide

Found a Star Wars PSP 2001 on craigslist the guy said was modded. Before we met, I asked that he charge it up and have anything running off the memory card so I could have him show me how it all worked. Then I was told he was waiting on his friend to finish modding it. 3 hrs later he was ready to meet again. He seemed a bit persistent to make the deal at 1am in the morning, which could just be bc he happened to be nearby (lives 30m away). Should I go with my gut and steer clear of this? Is there something I can look for i.e. FW numbers, etc. I just don't want to get screwed and I have no knowledge of all things PSP. I have a UMD game to test that part at least. thanks

lol, yep what he said. If you can afford it just get a new one, they aren't that much these days but if money's too tight look for one that's in the best condition because every model psp now is easily hackable. But yeah stay away from the ones that want to meet 1am in the morning.

Yep money's tight, so I'm trying to do a trade.. but I might just hold out for another deal. Plus I kinda want to hack it myself.

Yea I think so too! Plus from our previous msgs he seems extremely knowledgeable about PC stuff but now all of a sudden a friend is modding it.. I just wonder if that's a way to play dumb later, like somehow something is messed up but he has no idea bc his friend modded it.

Well when you do decide to meet up with him just check the basics. You need to check that the UMD drive works, the controls all work, the screen isn't damaged, sound works. As far as checking that it's properly modded you can look at the system version in the system menu. It should tell you what it's on. Also check that you can bring up the plugin menu. To do that you need to turn it off and hold the left trigger button when you turn it on. You should see a list of settings there.

Preferrably a modded PSP comes with a pandora battery and a jig memory card but the battery isn't mandatory since some CFW's can be installed overtop of official versions. It's been a while since I broke my last one so I might be a little rusty on the info. Maybe someone that still owns one can chime in.

It really is a very nice handheld when it's modded. The PSP scene was crazy with all the things you could do

I may just wait for another offer. Any 2000-3000 model is fine with me, so I can use the component cable. Heck I'd even trade for a DS Lite.

Guess I will chime in here you can check with most psp if CFW just hit select and should have a menu come up
and this sounded fishy to me to BTW
