Well when you do decide to meet up with him just check the basics. You need to check that the UMD drive works, the controls all work, the screen isn't damaged, sound works. As far as checking that it's properly modded you can look at the system version in the system menu. It should tell you what it's on. Also check that you can bring up the plugin menu. To do that you need to turn it off and hold the left trigger button when you turn it on. You should see a list of settings there.
Preferrably a modded PSP comes with a pandora battery and a jig memory card but the battery isn't mandatory since some CFW's can be installed overtop of official versions. It's been a while since I broke my last one so I might be a little rusty on the info. Maybe someone that still owns one can chime in.
