    If it is a PSP 1000 or 2000 series. Then it will run Custom Firmware.

    Warning! If it's a PSP-2000 series PSP, there's a risk that it has a TA-88v3 mainboard (Which cannot be modified, unless you want a brick)!

    You should get the seller to guarantee that that PSP can have a CFW installed into it's NAND.

    Your best bet to get a fully modifiable PSP is to buy one second-hand.

    I plan on getting the God of War psp bundle that come out Nov
    November? Then isn't that a rather new bundle? I would stay clear of such new bundles, since most PSPs that come in new bundles can't have a CFW flashed into their NAND chips.

    IDK it hasn't come out yet. I plan on getting the new GoW psp bundle that comes with Ghost of Sparta, Chains of Olympus, the movie Kick Ass, and a 2 gig mem stick seen here: http://www.videogamesblogger.com/201...s-of-chaos.htm it says the psp is a 3000 though. So I take it that means I'm not going to be able to hack it at all? That would suck if it was the case 'cause I would really like to be able to play my ps1 games on the go.

    --EDIT--

    Just read the latest post, that does indeed suck but I still plan on getting it. I'll just have 2 psps instead

    If a PSP-3000 or PSP-2000 with a TA-88v3 mainboard still has a firmware version older than or equal to v5.03 (Almost impossible for new bundles), you can update to 5.03 and use ChickHEN to run GEN 5.03 GEN-C.

    There is no way to downgrade such a PSP's firmware, once you update to a firmware that's newer than v5.03!!

    I see. Once I get the psp will finding out the firmware version be straightforward, like finding your version # on a ps2 for example?
    Softmodded V12 & V3 (750gb HDD) FMCB1.8
    2x Softmodded xbox Ndure1.1 (40GB HDD)
    PSP 3000 6.20 PRO-C

    Yup, but it may be easier.

    I don't think that there is a "standard" or "real" way to determine a PSP's stock firmware version just by looking at the box.
    You have to switch on the PSP, and go and look at the firmware version that's displayed under System Settings->System Information.

    Dude that PSP will be unhackable. As has been said go for a 1000 and most 2000s should be alright. 3000s below a certain firmware version can work just as well as 1000s and 2000s, however you will have to repatch it everytime your PSP turns off.

    There used to be a way back in 2005-2007. I don't know if it is still applicable today. The letter on the box would determine the version.

    No letter- 1.50
    A- 1.50
    B- 1.50
    C- 1.52
    D- 2.00

    That's not an accurate list but it was something like this. Let me do some digging, I might be able to find the list.

    EDIT: Found it. From
    http://forums.qj.net/guides-psp-gene...23-2007-a.html

    [Last updated on Dec 23, 2007]

    no letter = 1.0 (Japanese Release) 1.5 (North-American Release) confirmed
    A = 1.5 confirmed
    B = 1.51 confirmed
    C = 1.52 confirmed
    D = 1.52 confirmed
    E = 1.52 confirmed
    F = 2.0 confirmed
    G = 2.01 confirmed
    H = 2.50 confirmed
    I = 2.60 confirmed
    J = 2.70 unconfirmed
    K = 2.71 confirmed
    L = 2.81 confirmed
    M = 3.01 confirmed
    N = 3.03 confirmed
    O = 3.10 confirmed
    P = 3.11 confirmed
    Q = 3.30 unconfirmed
    R = 3.40 confirmed
    S = 3.50 confirmed
    T = 3.51 confirmed

    NP = 3.60 (PSP Slim & Lite Release) confirmed
    NP A = 3.71 confirmed
    Of course don't know about the latest versions, but any later versions would be the newer boards. So look for PSP 1000 and PSP 2000.

    okay look, if you want to buy a hackable psp i would suggest getting a phat, the slims are hackable but usually in bundles they have the latest motherboards and stuff. if you buy this bundle theres a chance you may not be able to create a pandora battery with it..
