PSX-PSP Klaymen Klaymen/The Neverhood ENG Translation Possibilities
PSX-PSP Klaymen Klaymen/The Neverhood ENG Translation Possibilities –

Firstly, hello PSX-Scene...it is nice to be here.
That said, straight to business:
Remember 'The Neverhood' (Stop/Start Claymotion Animation - kind of like 'Wallace & Gromit'), or maybe Skullmonkeys (Klaymen Klaymen 2)?
Well, I do (which is the important thing)...anyway, it was a very creative approach to gaming and was ported to PSX from PC but only in Japanese (which I might learn, but that's off-topic)!
My intentions:
To either find a way to port it to a PSX friendly format - I'm guessing that would be incredibly long-winded and a huge learning curve for myself. Or to translate it to English (including all voices and such) using the files in the English PC version.
Then I shall put it onto my PSP and reap the benefits of Klaymen Klaymen in English on my PSP - which is why I didn't post this in the PSX section! I just need to know if this will affect the EBOOT in such a way as to cause major problems? I need advice about this whole project as my last attempt to code was way back when I was about 12 and I was working on a major mod for CnC Firestorm...so I'm not exactly qualified for this really.
Basically I have been wanting more from games recently, especially handheld ones...I'm onto this whole 'games-as-art' hit that only actual creativity in gaming can cure. I'm bored of the standard. Echochrome is a great example of gaming companies thinking outside the box - there are fantastic games out there but I want them on my PSP!
I don't know why I've become fixated on this notion, but I have.
Any ideas, or resources like PSX sound tools for audio conversion or Hex Editors or whatever I'll need along the way that you might know about would be really appreciated - even just a nod of encouragement would really be nice.
=P

+slightly older thread bump.
Wow, this would be awesome, having klaymen klaymen converted to english (if you still plan to). I figure you might be able to use an audio ripper and text editor. There's a lot of PSX utilities at Playstation Utilities - Zophar's Domain and one of them might do the trick for ya.
For the EBOOT thingy, far as I know, the PSP pretty much has strong PS1 emulation, so give the original backed-up file of your game a test run as an eboot, and if that works then the translated one you may patch probably will too.
Also, if you do ever release this thing, be sure to release a patch for the actual PS1 image and not just the eboot, so those who imported it can play it on their PS1/2/3s
I'm a fan of the idea, so go for it if you're game.
EDIT: The TIM file viewer on the Zophar Page can supposedly open, extract and replace PS1 textures. If the text is saved onto their images, perhaps the "textures" of the text boxes can be edited? Just a guess, here.

I remember that unique game indeed, I played it on PC long time ago and from what I can remember the game doesn't have heavy text in it, and most text was encoded into the game's FMV.
The game had some indirect sequels on PSX : Skullmonkeys and Klaymen Gun-Hockey

Did you ever end up going through with any of that? I would love that. I think a lot of people would put money towards it, maybe start a kickstarter?
