When Installing FMCB and other Apps for Other Users
When Installing FMCB and other Apps for Other Users –

Instead of clogging up the FMCB install service thread with questions, I decided to make a new thread for some things I wanted to clear up for myself.
What reason is there for needing to get someone's PS2 model #?
- I am aware that the newer SCPH-9000x models don't work with FMCB. Although there are some early SCPH-9000x models that still may work.
- If including HDLoader as part of the install, when patching HDLoader for v9 consoles, you need to make sure the following option is enabled: "No disc seek while loading (stops freezing at splash screen on V9)". Is this a factor only for v9 consoles?
What are other possible reasons for needing to know the model #?
Hardware: PS2 v7 (GH-022) NTSC | Crystal Chip 2.0 Pro SLE | Sony Network Adapter | 300GB Segate HDD
Software: uLaunchELF 4.40 | HDLoader 0.8c | HDL_Dump 0.8.6+GUI | SMS 2.9 (Rev.3)

Lets see here. On the SCPH-9000x models, fmcb will work on them up until bios revision 230. Usually the 230's have a datecode of 8c. 220's have a datecode of 8b and earlier.
As it's fairly well known, Sony removed the OSD and DVD Player upgrade feature from the BIOS rendering FMCB useless. on 230 and up.
As for the V0 Jap models, I think you still have to rip IRX modules from game discs and use those systems don't have them in the bios.
Regarding HDL with the v9/10/11's I would thing that still applies even though no one will likely have discs in the tray anymore.
can't think of any other models with special needs.

The main reason is to determine the region and type of console (slim/fat) with just knowing the model number, many of us can figure out a solution rather quickly, saving that 'back & forth' posting.
Things we can figure out:
-The region is in the last digit
-Slim users cant use the PS1 Exploit to boot the FMCB installer
-some newer slims have USB stick compatibility issues
im sure theres a few more im not thinking of right now.....
By just asking for the model number as a "default" question, its just so much easier than trying to guess what they might be doing wrong, since the questions range from methods to install to region problems.
Now if you mean only for the FMCB install service thread, then its even more inportant to know the model to ensure the installer installs the right region and any specific apps the 'customer' requests that may be available to their region/language.
PS2 Consoles:
SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

Yes this is exactly what I wanted to know about. I just want to make sure I'm not leaving anything out when doing an install for someone with a different console of the same region (ex: slim ps2). Both of my PS2's are version 7.
