what exactly should I burn to install free mc boot?
what exactly should I burn to install free mc boot? –
I tried to install mc boot with the help of a swap magic 3.6plus cd and a pen drive. It appears that my pen drive is not compatible as swapmagic can't recognize it.
So i've tried to install it using a rewritable cd-r by following the CD burn installation guide.
I dragged the INSTALL, SYSTEM.CNF(edited it properly) and FREE_MCBOOT.ELF into the CDGenPS2. I saved it as an ISO file on my desktop with the name "ps2fmcboot", and burned it using SONIC
Thing is, I cant boot it on my ps2. After i swap it and attempt to LOAD PROGRAM, An error shows up stating "Not a valid PS2 disk"
I'm assuming that I mistakely burned the wrong file. Maybe I needed to burn something else aside from the ps2fmcboot.iso file. Or maybe the ISO file should be inside somekind of folder? I dont know.
Help would be very much apreeciated.
maybe i configured the SYSTEM.CNF incorrectly? it says to edit it as
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\FREE_MCBOOT.ELF;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = NTSC/PAL
but it says to leave an empty space on the fourth line. By empty space they mean to press SPACEBAR on the fourth line? or press ENTER at the end of the third line?
Maybe swap magic3.6 plus is not compatible with fmcb 1.8?
You should burn uLunchelf
So, i burn the image i've created and Ulauchelf on the same cd?

Burn the uLE on the same CD, and make sure that uLE is the one that boots.
Then you can put in your swap magic CD version (I'm not sure if DVD version works, I've tried it twice, both times it blacked out, didn't bother trying more).
Then swap your CD, press square to do a special boot, your uLE should boot.
Then from uLE, you can navigate through the CD to find FMCB's ELF file, just run that and it should work.
I myself have a compatible USB drive, and it DOES work when I put in swapmagic disc using the method you tried.. BUT, before installing FMCB, it didn't actually work for me either. So what I did was I use uLE to navigate through the USB drive and launch the FMCB ELF file from there. Luckily I happened to have one of uLE discs I made for save files lying around.
thx for your reply.
I burned the fmcb v1.7 instead and it worked so its all good
No, it is not.

Don't get me wrong now. FMCB v1.7 was a great thing, when it was new, and it is still not bad.
But it is definitely obsolete, compared to FMCB v1.8b. So you should definitely upgrade.
And with an existing FMCB v1.7 setup that should be very easy to do.
First prepare an FMCB v1.8b 'noobie package' on a FAT32 formatted (and compatible) USB drive.
Then boot FMCB v1.7, start uLaunchELF, and use the uLE FileBrowser to launch the FMCB installer in the noobie package folder on "mass:".
If you want to be insured against mishaps, simply make the new install to another MC than the one you already have FMCB v1.7 on.
