why do you need to update? the only difference is region free booting so the old 03 install not working on a 02 console doesnt apply....
if you do want to update then all you need to do is run the installer from your existing setup...
boot FMCB
start uLE
have the new 1.8c files on a USB stick...
with uLE go to mass/ and then run the new FMCB installer.
pull your old card after boot and do the install to a different card . this way if it doesnt work you still have a working 1.8b
and can try again....

I don't agree with this. Major change is throw out mechacon needing and making small install on fat's without external DVDPLx from Slim model. It's more legit i think.
fair enough , but is there any difference in functionality? apart from a smaller size install on the MC?

From what I know, the FMCB v1.8C KELF had a certain CNF parser bug fixed (Don't ask me about this... since I didn't even know about the existence of this bug) and some things were improved since it boots faster.
One thing for sure is that my installer can run on all console models without external files, unlike the FMCB v1.8b installer.
