    @ Yoshi314 and SP193,

    I wasn't very clear, sorry.

    - First of all I tested both PS2's with the same (freemcboot) memory card, both only on my tv. My tv is pal but supports ntsc
    - I don't remember if I had 1.8 installed just from Jimmikaelkael, or already used the unofficial installer. But probably that won't make a difference? So dunno if it's 1.8 or 1.8c which showed the glitch.
    - This means I will borrow the ps2 again and check when it happens. And of course have to take some pictures of that. Of course, if it is of any interest, it's only a small thing after all.
    - offtopic: @ sp193 it's fun reading your conversations with silverbull in the linux kit area, although I don't understand anything about what's going on.

    No harm done.

    I reckon that there might be a significant difference between FMCB v1.8 and v1.8C - notably because Jimmikaelkael seems to have changed some things in FMCB v1.8C, causing bootups to be faster.

    Not to mention that FMCB v1.8C was compiled separately from FMCB v1.8 and v1.8B (Which is approximately a year older than v1.8C), so there is also the possibility that Jimmikaelkael did change his toolchain between the compilation and release of FMCB v1.8B and v1.8C.

    Therefore, it's imperative that you determine which version of FMCB displayed those graphical glitches.

    It could be the tv he is using is not selecting the ntsc or pal correctlly
    If I was him I would go to FMCB configurator and set it manually to see if fixes glitch maybe auto detection with that tv is trying to send both signals and not hitting on or the other

    I should mention that RAM problems are a likely source for graphic glitches on PS2 consoles... :\

    And considering that I have tested and used FMCB 1.8C on everything ranging from SCPH-10000 to SCPH-9000x (It works fine on 9000x after a BIOS downgrade) there were NO ISSUES.

    well, the graphic glitch I found. However, it has nothing to do with free mcboot I think. This is from a 75004 console.

    Games don't have graphic glitches, and neither does the free mcboot logo (sorry, I was wrong before). It's only the osdsys and browser. Probably not interesting,
    but I have a picture attached. It also occurs when I don't have the memory card put in. Also I tried a scart cable and red-white-yellow cables, same result.ps2_distortion.png

    That's exactly what faulty RAM causes on the system. If you're lucky and it's outside of the range of memory the games use, you can leave it alone and be happy. The fact is that the OSD uses very weird memory ranges (high memory addresses) for buffers and such so it's usually storing it's data on places games not aways use.

    Another thing that uses a LOT of memory is the DVD player. Is that working ?
    Have you tried PS1 games ?

    @ l_oliveira, Just tried a dvd, and it's working. What's the cause of faulty RAM, you have any idea?

    Edit: psone game (ffviii) works, but has some lags in the intro fmv. This is not the case on my other (fat) ps2. Maybe also RAM-related?

    What is the cause of bad RAM you ask ? BAD RAM is caused by BAD RAM ... Meaning the RAM memory chips on the console are faulty ... -_-;
    Like a PC with bad memory boards, you have to replace them to make it stop fail (crash)

    Eventually you will find a game or two that are unplayable because of that problem.

    The PS2 does a RDRAM test during it's POST.

    To view the results of the POST, you have to connect a computer to the serial lines on the PS2's mainboard.

    I don't think that a homebrew app was ever built to test the PS2's RDRAM though.

    @dsgamer: The master has spoken.
    It's most likely caused by RDRAM problems.
