Also, the PS2 must not have modchip that blocks Magic Gate from working properly....
I recently picked up a second-hand slim with an older version of FMCB installed. It was already set up with ESR, uLaunchELF, HDLoader and SMS. I also added OPL. It is working for me now, but I'd like to have the latest updates, improvements an bugfixes.
I'd like to update everything to the latest version of FMCB 1.8C, but I only have the one memory card with the old FMCB already installed and don't want to screw things up and lose FMCB.
The currently installed versions are FCMB 1.8 ESR beta 9b, uLaunchELF 4.39, SMS 2.9r2.
1) What's the proper way to do an upgrade to 1.8C with only one memory card? Can I just put the FMCBInstaller_093B1 folder on my USB drive, then run FMCBInstaller .elf directly from mass with uLaunchELF?
2) Does this installer detect and uninstall my old FMCB automatically, even though I don't know exactly what version I have?
3) I don't know whether or not my current FMCB was a multi-install or not. If that makes a difference, how can I identify a multi-install by browsing the files on mc0?
4) After running this FMCBInstaller, will all the old programs (ESR, uLaunchELF, etc.) remain on the Memory Card and still work as before?
5) I found "Mo'Installations for PS3 MCA Tool FMCB18c" by CoreCore at the link below. Is it a good idea to use that to install all the updated programs? Or is there a newer version or better way to update everything? If I use this, should I manually delete the old .ELF files (like ESR .ELF) from the memory card first or will this automatically overwrite the old ones with the new?

Thanks for the help.

I donīt know that, but if you start the installer you can select "uninstall" FMCB on the TAB, and then reinstall the newer one. But be careful after uninstalling not to reset the PS2 !!!2) Does this installer detect and uninstall my old FMCB automatically, even though I don't know exactly what version I have?
The 1.8C use only some KB on the MC, the older installer uses 3-4 MB !!!!
If you say the free space in your MC is not interesting you and you want to update , you can leave the FMCB and update only your apps (uLE 4.42) etc...
Just delete the old one and copy the new one.... (uLE is in MC:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF, so you have to rename your new uLE to BOOT.ELF and copy it)
Yes....4) After running this FMCBInstaller, will all the old programs (ESR, uLaunchELF, etc.) remain on the Memory Card and still work as before?
Thanks for your advice. I went ahead and did the uninstall and then a new install.
To backup the old install I manually copied all the memory card folders to my USB drive with uLE and I also used the FMCB installer to dump the old memory card.
The FMCB 1.8C installer did detect the type of my old install when I tried to do a basic uninstall. It turned out that my memory card had a multi-install. So I had to do the following:
1. Uninstall Multi-install
2. Remove and re-insert memory card
3. Uninstall FMCB
4. Install new FMCB 1.8C
I also deleted BOOT .ELF then copied over uLaunchELF 4.42b as BOOT .ELF. I kept my old LAUNCHELF .CNF and it seems to be working.
HOW DO YOU REALLY TELL? YOU USE A SMALL SCREW DRIVER AND OPEN IT AND LOOK! DOH.
Use this as a guide: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f10/how-...torial-111540/ (How to NEVER get suckered into buying fake PS1 Memory Cards! (Tutorial))
For example a few common Sony authentic PS2 8MB Memory Cards (Blue & Red twin yellow blister-pack, my favorite):
Code:SCPH-10020:Letter Code F:Date Code 07-02:Clear Blue:Black Screws:Full PCB:one SCEI QFP chip CXD3740R & one Spansion memory SOP chip S99-50146. SCPH-10020:Letter Code H:Date Code 06-04:Clear Red:Black Screws:Full PCB:one SCEI QFP chip CXD3740R & one Spansion memory SOP chip S99-50146. (SCEI == Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.)
Well regarding Mo'Installations, that really depends, i think *not* simply because a few things have been updated since then, certainly get the normal FMCB installs down first, try it a few times like i did, then learn some config file editing, then you'll find stuff like what i posted useful. (Boy, someone should have really written a complete noob's guide for me back then). Hope this helps! =)
Yesterday, reading the whole thread, this came to my curiosity. I wanted to know what files included in PS3MCA project are "questionable" by SONY, I read the PS3MCA thread, but I didn't get which are this files, here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f153/ps3...tml#post842269 (PS3 Memory Card Adaptor (CECHZM1) Allows Free MC Boot Install) it is said (mecha_emu.c) but this is a source code file, it is not needed in this installer or it is?. Maybe I didn't read very carefully, but to me was not clear. I just want to know if this files are important or not to run FMCB 1.8c (I'm already running this version).
Also, I would like to know if the USBHDFSD.IRX and USBD.IRX included in the FMCB 1.8c installer are the latest USB drivers or where I can reach those files (the latest) I have the ones attached in uLE thread, here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/attachme...svn%3D1600.zip and, here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/attachme...svn%3D1534.zip
Best regards to all
