Yes, this installer installs FMCB v1.8C, which is the latest version from Jimmikaelkael.

The APPS folder within the fmcb-install folder is meant to store all other programs that you wish to have on your memory card. Just place your files into that folder and the install will copy them into the same folder on your memory card (mc:APPS).

However, that does not add menu options to the hacked OSDSYS menu! To achieve that, you need to modify your FREEMCB.CNF file too.

So if I want the ESR binary on my memory card, I copy the ESR ELF to fmcb-install\APPS. The installer copies the ESR ELF into mc:APPS during installation.

This installer comes with no add-ons. Only FMCB v1.8C and uLaunchELF v4.42a will be installed by default. uLaunchELF is installed as BOOT\BOOT.elf on your memory card. If you wish to have more programs, copy the additional programs to the fmcb-install\APPS folder.

Looks like you have a complete FMCB installation. There should be a folder named 'APPS' on your memory card too, but I don't see it in the file list you provided.

What are you trying to achieve here?

@All: Once again, let me reiterate that I only wrote the installer. FMCB v1.8C was written by and compiled Jimmikaelkael, and Neme was involved in the FMCB project at the earlier stages. Credit for the FMCB binary should go to them, and credit for only the installer should go to me.

@Mods/admins: If I did not emphasize the above in the first post of this thread, could someone please update the first post to reflect that statement? Unintentional stealing of someone's credit is something I would like to avoid if possible.

Thank you for the help, but i think i do not know how to put this installer into action, i have Memory Cards and a PC, i also have a Sony memory card adapter, how do i get going? JKK provides a PC script to run for example for the ps3mca-tool.

Ultimately, i want to edit the LAUNCHELF dot CNF and SMB dot CNF text files, do i add these somewhere do get uLE to do what i want it to? (you mentioned calling it Boot dot elf).

Oh dear. I either missed your post or I thought that someone would give you a better reply than I can. :/

Well, this software is designed to install FMCB via a Playstation 2 console. If you are going to use a Sony Memory Card adaptor, you should use Jimmikaelkael's PS3MCA package instead.

I don't know anything much about editing the FREEMCB.CNF file, sorry. But I know that there are tutorials out there on the Internet, and a Google search will find them for you.

@Mods/Admins: I realized that the first post doesn't mention anything about the unofficial installer v0.93B.
Could someone please update the first post to reflect this old update, or at least link to this post: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f153/uno...tml#post965019 (Unofficial FMCB v1.8C installer)

    Thanks!

Well, i got your installer to work, nice work on your part!

I used a FAT32 formatted USB storage device (aka thumb-drive), I unzipped your installer from my PC to it, made some changes (below) and then put it in my PS2 USB slot with my FMCB Memory Card (made from JKK's ps3mca-tool) in MC slot 2 and a blank Memory card in MC Slot 1, then used FMCB's uLe to browse to and run your FMCBInstaller . ELF to do an install on to my blank (but formatted) MC in slot 2.

I got all the popular Add-Ins on as well, i put the newest ESR, OpenPS2Loader, and SMS into your APPS folder along with my LAUNCHELF . CNF and then i had to edit the FREEMCB . CNF you provided to load OpenPS2Loader instead of the less popular HDLoader and to find everything in the APPS folder path (default is BOOT folder path). BTW, I think you may want to learn how to edit your FREEMCB . CNF file so you can provide a better basic one since your installer requires us to use an APPS folder.

When the installer finished, I found i needed to use uLe again to move my edited LAUNCHELF . CNF from the APPS folder into the BOOT folder so it would be used. (I edited it primarily so that i could do write to my PC filesystem over the LAN. And BTW, forget about SMB . CNF, as it is for Samba and not implemented yet)

So, yeah, use the wonderful ps3mca-tool software from JKK to make a MC with FMCB on it when using a PC and the Sony PS3/PS2 USB MC reader (CECHZM1). And use your great installer to make a MC with FMCB on it when using a USB storage device. But is there not a way your installer could boot up its installer ELF directly without needing uLe on a MC (via FMCB) ?

I am curious as to why you made the change to using an /APPS directory for additional ELF files instead of the /BOOT directory as previously done in 1.8b? Is there any particular benefit or is it just to separate required files from optional files so someone doesn't accidentally go deleting required files?

If this was answered previously, I apologize, but I had not seen anything regarding the /APPS directory other than to put additional files in it. (I personally went and dumped all my files in /BOOT but was wondering the reasoning behind it and am open to possibly moving them back into an /APPS directory if there is good cause.)

Why the APPS directory? I really am too new to know why, but i think with this installer everything i put in the /BOOT folder was not copied over to the MC, so by putting it in the /APPS directory it put it on the MC, i would like to know myself if the /BOOT folder was the one i was to use for my ELF installs. If so, maybe i did not have to edit the FREEMCB . CNF file paths for the ELFs.

I'm sorry, I was directing that question to SP193, not to you. I was wondering why he changed his installer to use the /APPS directory when the old 1.8b installer put everything into /BOOT. Coming from a BSD background, I can kind of understand splitting it up into /BOOT and /APPS as a sort of core programs vs extra programs separation and was wondering if there is any reason for doing this on the PS2 instead of just dumping everything in the /BOOT directory.

As long as you have a method of booting homebrew software, you can launch this installer. This installer is a software written for the Playstation 2, so it must be run by the Playstation 2.

I thought that it was always that way, where the BOOT folder was used to store uLaunchELF and the APPS folder was used to store the extra applications that the wants.

I'm a bit late to FMCB, but the couple of times that I installed 1.8b (granted it was the noobie package, so perhaps that's the difference?) it dumped everything into /BOOT. I'm going to be doing this for a friend/co-worker soon and was mostly debating which way I should do it, an extra folder on the memory card or just plain /BOOT and wanted to know if there was a technical superiority to either method. Which as far as I can realistically tell, it's basically user preference.

In FMCB 1.8b and previous the main 4 newbie apps were put into the /boot folder. by default ESR,SMS,BOOT(uLE) and HDLoader were in the /boot directory the /apps directory was there for any other homebrew you wanted to add such as emulators etc.
The 1.8b installer installs the /boot folder then goes to check the /apps folder for any additional .ELF's
in my installs i have added OPL to the /apps folder. users can then use either or delete HDLoader if they wish.
