Just do the PSone exploit, I got myself a AR MAX as well but the latest one which doesn't have max media player. The PSone exploit works, but that's assuming if you got a fat ps2.

Only problem is that I have the Max Media Player edition, and the PSone exploit is for the older ones.

Max Media Player edition should be able to run elf files so you can easily run ulaunchelf. With the max memory manager you can easily copy the memory buffer overflow exploit to your memory card so you can run ulaunchelf and install FMCB.

When I use the MAX Memory Manager, the flash drive appears in the list of devices (next to the MC I want FMCB on) but when I select it AR thinks there's nothing in there.
If I go to the Media Player, it finds the files just fine but they don't boot if I hit the play button.
I should have just asked a volunteer.
