I installed FMCB through a USB drive (normal install), booted the install through a uLaunchELF CD. The install went without a hitch, as described here: http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials...r_dummies.html All messages were successfull.

Now, when I start the console, I just get the FMCB logo with credits, and nothing else happens. I see no menu to choose SMS for example. If I start the console with a SMS CD, it shows the FMCB menu and boots SMS from the CD after a few seconds.

Some help would be appreciated, please.

I'm honestly not sure what the problem is there, but if nobody else replies, you should try to upload a copy of your FREEMCB.CNF file so we can check out how it's configured. It should be located in mc0:/SYS-CONF/FREEMCB.CNF (mc0 = memory card slot 1 of your PS2).

most likely you didn't have the ELF files in the BOOT folder upon install. place ELF files from the DUMMY PACKAGE in the BOOT folder on your USB stick. you can run them from there if I'm not mistaken.

Hm. I installed FMCB with the Newbie package provided at http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials...r_dummies.html I checked, and all ELFs were in the INSTALL folder. I am puzzled now, where is the BOOT folder? The whole point was to be able to run SMS etc. from the MC, and the last message during install said that ELFs were successfully transfered.

@ps2dragon: Thanks for the suggestion, I will do that when I arrive at home from work.

I understand the splash screen stays forever. If so, maybe there is a problem that crashes FMCB. If you have a modchip, have you tries to disable it ? Did you try booting your ps2 without your USB stick ?

Yes, I tried without the USB stick, same thing happens. I got the PS2 pre-modded, so I don't know what type of modchip I have, or how to disable it...? Any help?

Question concerning the boot process, what is the desired behaviour? The splash screen shows, and after a few seconds the PS2 shows me the system menu as shown in the tutorial? Can I try to somehow manually enter the system menu?

Thanks for all the replies, I really hope to resolve the problem with your help.

Ah. no such logo appears from the modchip. I would not get into opening the console. Do I need to know exactly what type of modchip it is in order to disable it?

yeah because each modchip has a proper button to disable it and others cannot be disable at all only by removing it
