I was having a tremendous amount of trouble with the McBoot install. I tried many different settings, but couldn't get it to work. It went through to the McBoot installer once but gave me a USB error. I was using an HP 125w USB thumb drive, it does not work. Also, Memorex 8x DVD-R media did not work with the 007 AUF swap trick, but the Memorex 16x DVD-R worked like a charm.

I bought a cheapo 8GB sandisk USB from walmart for 12 dollars and it blew through the install no problem.

A few questions I have for you guys is:

Can I run PS1 games from the HDD?
How do I run PS1 games from disk?
Do I need to wipe a HDD that was swiped from a computer (Win xp is install on it) before HDLoader will read it? I'm getting a hardware error.

    Thanks guys.

First off,... Congratulations for successfully installing FMCB.

Yes you can (USB, internal HDD, LAN/HOST/...)!
Search for ffriever's 'PS2PSXe'. It is a PS1-Emulator for PS2, but currently has no sound.

How do I run PS1 games from disk?
Originals of your game-region, normally... (insert and it start).
Backups, or imports of any region can only be swapped... (disc-swap-trick) and it only works for PS2-V9 and up,...
It would work on older models too, but only if a programm patches the PS1-Logo-Check which is still done on those older versions...

Yepp, you need to format it... But ifHDL reports a hardware-error, it probably has to do with the jumpers on the backside...
Try either 'Master', or 'Cable Select'. 'Slave' normally doesn't work and you can try 'Cable Select', if your HDD is not detected as 'Master'.

Thanks for the information. It is strange that the PS2 needs an emulator to run PS1 games, doesn't the PS2 have a PS1 hardware chip on-board? If I wanted to play my PS1 backups without disk swapping would installing a mod chip be a better route to go?

    I really appreciate it.

    Sounds crazy, I know...

    doesn't the PS2 have a PS1 hardware chip on-board?
    Yes, it has... But...
    1. The PS2 has a few processors,... Beside the GPU and the SPU and some other stuff like the Vector-Units in the Main-CPU/EE, there are
    -the main-CPU/EmotionEngine and
    -the Co-Processor/IOP

The IOP is used in PS2-Mode to run the different Hardware-Drivers and manage IO from those devices/connections...
In PS1-Mode, the IOP 'switches' to be the Main-Processor... And then there couldn't run any driver-stuff on it, which grants access to other devices then CDs, since it is now the Main-CPU (in PS1-Mode, it is and works and responds tothe PS1-Software running, exactly like the PS1-CPU would) and allready very similar to a PS1-CPU.

If I wanted to play my PS1 backups without disk swapping would installing a mod chip be a better route to go?
It would be the only way from burned CD, if you don't want to swap...

    About modchips:

If you really want to add PS1-Support, but don't need any other additional Modchip-Features, then I'd sugest you to use a PIC as PS1-Chip, or PS2-Chip for PS1-Games and 'unlocking the drive'.

    I really appreciate it.
    Glad to be of service,...

I could probably pick up a PS1 for next to nothing. Is the original PS1 or PS1 slim easily modified to play back ups? I wanted to have an all-in-one solution, but that looks like it isn't going to happen.

    Thanks
