I've been trying to install FMCB onto my 30001 fat ps2 with the AR MAX media player method for days. The media player only reads certain files from my usb stick. An easier way to put this is..when I use the Free release package elf file, the ar max media thing says that there are no media files on my pen drive. BUT, when I use the noobie package, it recognizes the BOOT.elf that is in the INSTALL folder, but that gives a black screen. The tutorial says to try alternative methods, but none of those elf files will show up in the media manager.

Is there something different about those noobie files? They seem to work..but won't install. If I can get the FCE ultra elf file to show up, I could probably install it, but it won't show up.

I just need to know why the noobie files work and why the other ones just won't show up. By the way, it's not AR MAX evo, but it has media manager so it should work.

AR Max is a very 'weird' program and it will sometimes see a file, but not boot it. This is in part due to a USB device incompatibility, so try a different USB device.

I have had success with San Disk 1GB, Lexar 128MB and a PNY 2GB usb sticks with the AR Max Media Player to install FMCB and the alternate options as well.

The MaxFlash drive that comes with AR Max is not a good USB device to use to install FMCB.

It's not the MaxFlash drive, it's just a 128mb drive that someone gave me for free at school. I don't currently have any other flash drives with me, but I'm planning to ask someone if I can borrow theirs.

I could try using my old ipod nano as a usb device..it might work. If not, I'll ask some peeps at school tomorrow if i can borrow theirs.
Also, nothing else is on the drives. They are formatted to FAT32 and the noobie package is in the root folder.

What about the CD method? If I wanted to run it off of a CD, would I be able to do it in AR MAX?

    EDIT: Ipod didn't work.

I dont think you can use AR Max to boot a CD, but it might work if you 'old school' swap it with the AR Max CD. Thats a very difficult method and is not a safe way either. It would scratch up the AR Max disc and the backup as well.

If you have a PSP, you can use that in USB Mode.

Nah I don't have a psp. I just have a usb stick that won't boot the installer.

I have two of the exact same flash drives and only one of them will show the files in the media manager. I don't know what else I should do. The only files that even show up are the ones in the noobie package, and those won't install with my usb.

All I need to do is get it to load..then I can go from there. I just can't make it work.

Since you have a fat PS2, you could do the Independence Exploit as long as you have a PS1 disc to trigger it. Once you get that up and running then you can install FMCB from there.

    Oh yea...good idea sk8rping!

XHolyPuffX heres the link to the guide for that one:

    http://freemcboot.info/armax2.php

Even though the Media Player app isnt compatible with your USB stick, the AR Max's Memory Manager might be able to transfer the Exploit save ok.

I don't have a ps1 disk but I could probably get one from somewhere. I'm just trying to do what I can with what I have right now. If nothing else works then I'll go for the ps1 disk method.

    Bleh...

Well, if you have a PS2 Game disc you can try the PS2 Game Swap trick.
