I would just like to know how the Devs and Users feel about a custom cold boot/splash screen for Free MC Boot, now that both PSP and PS3 have one. Now before people start confronting me over the technical capabilities of the PS2, keep in mind I'm only suggesting a customizable still image (png/jpg) in place of the current psx-scene advertisement. I'm not a Dev, but in my experience with PS2 homebrew, I would assume it wouldn't be too difficult to implement a Splash Screen source/path in the Configurator. Personally, I would gladly give up a few seconds of initial load time to have my PS2 coldboot resemble the matching coldboot themes on my PSP and PS3 (as well as my xmb themes, OPL theme, uLE/SMS backgrounds). Don't get me wrong... I give credit where credit is due... But honestly, isn't the whole purpose of homebrew to give customizable control and personalization to a product the user owns?

TL;DR... I want my PS2 coldboot/splash screen to match my PSP and PS3

    1. You're not the first one to ask this,... Please search a bit through the FMCB-Forums.
    2. There are a few differences, between PSP&PS3 compared to a PS2.
    a. First is,... A PS2 is not flashable,...
    b. Second is,... On both other systems, there were multiple contributors, while on a PS2 there were only two which did most of the stuff (hacking the KELF-Encryption and signing; woking on the loader and hacked OSDSYS and so on...).
    3. The third thing which annoys me personally the most is...
There were various people selling FMCB and those are the people, which really can't/don't want to live with the default boot-logo.
...on a PSP, there were things like commercial pandorra-akkus and so on, but did those akkus include the whole project or a CFW, or only a boot-loader to get homebrew'n started [I know,... There was encryption involved in this part.]?

On PSP and PS3Now before people start confronting me over the technical capabilities of the PS2, keep in mind I'm only suggesting a customizable still image (png/jpg) in place of the current psx-scene advertisement.
Of course it would be possible technically,... Even an animation would be possible.

I'm not a Dev, but in my experience with PS2 homebrew, I would assume it wouldn't be too difficult to implement a Splash Screen source/path in the Configurator.
The configurator is only there to configure/modify the FREEMCB.CNF, so as to unlock&control certain features of the FMCB-Loader and/or OSDSYS.
The feature you're requesting here must be implemented into the FMCB-Loader then...
Even then, I think there need to be a lot stuff changed...

If I remember correctly (I don't have the source on this Laptop, where I'm currently writing with, so I can't look at it yet...), the FMCB-Logo is initialized before the loader reads the CNF.

Personally, I would gladly give up a few seconds of initial load time to have my PS2 coldboot resemble the matching coldboot themes on my PSP and PS3 (as well as my xmb themes, OPL theme, uLE/SMS backgrounds).
Hahaha,... This just remind me to those, which said we included a delay on purpose, when the logo is shown.
(In your case, it is only the opposite... You won't mind a few seconds more...)

Don't get me wrong... I give credit where credit is due... But honestly, isn't the whole purpose of homebrew to give customizable control and personalization to a product the user owns?
    'The purpose of Homebrew',...
It could be a book and I think it even would be that long, to get all aspects covered...

But,... Homebrew comes with no warranty at all and is a fun-project for those, which contribute in it in any way...
If someone writes a programm, he is entitled to decide how the project goes further...

Btw.: You still have the chance to customize your PS2 in all and every aspect.
Free McBoot 1.7's source is open and still can be used to develop other stuff... But in the last 2 1/3 years, (nearly) no-one really showed his skills on it,...
I bet nearly no-one ever has messed with it, beside a few people from 'The GSHI' and a few interested maybe...

TL;DR... I want my PS2 coldboot/splash screen to match my PSP and PS3
Sorry that,... The FMCB-Logo is not going to be changed.

Then you might want to make your PSP and PS3 screens match the FMCB logo and OSD menu, as thats your best chance to have all 3 consoles match up.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded
