    Hi there,

I am new to this whole ps2 playing backup's deal so here goes...

    I have 2 questions.

    1) How do I go about playing backed up ps1 games on my ps2??

    2) How do I play my backed up ps2 games on my ps2??

Now my ps2 model is SCPH70002, I have managed to Install Free Mcboot onto my Memory card so I have this to boot off which I have done via the (007 Agent Under Fire method).

Is there a way with what I have above (of course DVD- Discs aswell/Burner) to play my backups without me having to have the lid of my ps2 off to have sensors locked down and w/o having to buy anything like ar, gameshark or swap disc.

I have looked around the net and youtube trying to work out if there is a way to do this once Free Mcboot is installed however I'm stumped and confused!!

From what I have seen ps2 images need to be patched? Does this need to be done with every single backup I have ? If so what is the best patcher I could use??? otherwise am I able to get away w/o needing to patch my discs before use?

If someone would be kind enough to answer all my questions this would be really greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Minal.

1 the only method to play ps1 disk is swap trick and could potentially harm you PS2 Their is an emulator in the works thou but still early stages

2 use high quality DVD and yes you must patch iso to make ESR work here is the patcher

    http://psx-scene.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=32

FYI their is another way to play backups that is to use Open PS2 Loader it can run games from internal HD for Fat PS2 USB mode and SMB on PC

    How to set up OPL

    Official OPLv0.8 User Guides

    V10 SCPH-50001 with Network adapter SCPH-10281 500 G HD
    PSP 3000 9G 6.20 PRO CFW Perm
Unofficial FMCB v1.8C OPL self compiled HD and SMB preferred
Is how all good gaming systems came to be

You have two options without a modchip:
1.psxlauncher.elf : You can use this little program to boot an original psx game first and when prompted swap with a back-up disc.

2.ffgriever's ps2psxe : You can find info and instructions here.

    2) How do I play my backed up ps2 games on my ps2??
Well you have a lot of options. You can use OpenPS2Loader (OPL) or PS2ESDL for discless gaming. Info and instructions here and here and here (Playstation 2 External Storage Device games Loader (PS2ESDL)).
You can use HDloader and a IDE HDD as well but that requires some soldering skills.
There's a fourth method for discless gaming but it's obsolete now so don't bother with it (USBAdvance).

Is there a way with what I have above (of course DVD- Discs aswell/Burner) to play my backups without me having to have the lid of my ps2 off to have sensors locked down and w/o having to buy anything like ar, gameshark or swap disc.
Yes and it's called ESR. Info and instructions here.

Yes. Yes. ESR disk patcher with Gui v0.24a. Without a modchip no.

Thank you for your help. Its abit late my time so I will try patching one of my games then trying to boot it.

Now to boot after ISO has been patched and burnt do I just load it like a normal ps2 game with my hacked mem card in slot one?

Or do I need to use one of the progs that were installed on the memory card? Not sure how to have mcboot actually boot the dvd. If that makes sense.

Could you please let me know.

    Thanks again.

If you have the FMCB Noobie Package (it comes with esr) yes just patch the ISO burn it with 4x and load it just like a normal PS2 game. You'll see some flashy colors and your game will most probably boot.

Yes, you can play PS1 back-up games on your PS2, provided you have the following:

    1. A V9 console or above.
    2. A thumbdrive/flash drive that can be formatted as Fat32 and will work with the PS2.
    3. PSXLauncher, which is an elf file. Google it or something.
    4. ULaunch, which is an elf file. You can find it on Google or something also.
    5. I don't know if you need your sensors blocked or not, but if it works without blocking, continue with this method.

After you get the required files on your thumbdrive, make sure that you install ULaunch on your memory card with FreeMCBoot, if you haven't already done that. If you have, open it up, go to FileBrowser, copy your PSXLauncher somewhere to your memory card, then go to the beginning screen of ULaunch, and press SELECT to go to configuration, and set a button trigger to that ELF file. Then, turn off your console completely (not a reset, but a shut down), then insert your ORIGINAL PSX disc, turn on the PS2, and hold down the button you set your trigger to (I use R1). The disc will stop spinning, and some text will show on the screen. You can swap your original for your backed-up copy, and then you click X on the gamepad, and the disc will start spinning.

Again, I don't know if your model is V9 or above, and I don't know if you have to block the sensors. If you don't, the above method should work.

As for playing PS2 back-ups, gettings Swap Magic is the best, because you don't have to patch your games, it and it automatically blocks your sensors (actually, when I installed it, there was a sensor it didn't cover, so I had to insert TP in my PS2). Swap Magic costs under $50 for the flip top AND the CD/DVD discs for booting your games. Plus, it comes with it's own version of ULaunch, only you have to have the disc for it to work. You can EASILY install FMCB with Swap Magic, because it has it's own ELF launcher.

Tried PSX loader, installed it to my Memory card that has all my stuff on it set trigger key as select however it doesn't work?

Not sure if I am doing the process correctly or not. Perhaps my model it doesn't work on no idea what version it is just know its a SCPH70002 if anyone could let me know if it is ment to work or not this would be great.

Otherwise any other ways that I could boot my PSX games w/o risking a spinning cog swap method would be awesome.

    Thanks.

Edit - Forgot to mention its a SCPH70002 CB not sure if the CB makes a major difference or not.

I tried using WFF Warzone as my original and hit R1 as my short key to launch into the PSX Launch prog as soon as that comes up I swap to my back up game and try to boot and I get the error this is not a PSX disc any ideas??

Also just tested - Kingdom Hearts, NFS Carbon, They seem to be working with ESR+Patch method thanks for the help on this one just need to sort out the above PSX issue then I can get gaming!!

Are you sure that the game you used was a PSX disc, not a PS2 disc? If you used ANY disc other than an original, store bought (or ebay bought), PSX disc, it won't work. Consider using a different PSX disc, if you have one, as yours might have too many scratches. I hope this works for you! (Just looked online. You have a version 12, just like I do, but I have a 700012. This should work.)

Thats weird, perhaps I have a option on that shouldn't be ??? I used original disc its a WWF Warzone Original with the black bottom on the disc so its an original for sure.

What I do is boot ps2 up with that disc in hold r1 and it goes to the screen saying wait for disc to stop spinning (didnt even sound like it was) then open lip and put back up in and hit x... try that and it doesn't work.

Does the fact it has my SCPH number then the letters CB at the end mean anything important ??

I think your problem is that you donīt have the sensor-mod.
If it so the PS2 becomes the command to reinitialize the CD when you open the lid and so it comes the error.....

You may to make the sensor-mod, otherwise it donīt work.

And on the 7000xx you donīt need the psx-launcher i think.
It sufficient to boot with a orig PSX-CD to uLE and after swap to press at "PS2Browser" or "PS2Disc" in "MISC:" on MC
