    I prepared FMCB on a friend's chipped PS2
    it was black slim

I worked great on the chip, it asked me if I'm sure I wanna install because no USB drive was detected, (heck I'll reinstall it later after I proove it works) so I said yes Im sure!

NEXT I tried to boot with it on the chipped PS2 - it worked DUH!

excellent, NEXT I brought it home to my non-chipped-PS2
BIOS version is SCPH-79001, the PS2 is Silver-Slim

tried to boot with it and... NOTHING!
whats the whole point if it can work only on chipped PS2s???

if I press browse on the only non-FMBC mod of the PS2 and go to the memory card I can see a box named Free MC Boot - FMCB

I also tried and successfully able to boot with it on the chipped PS2, so with ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT ITS MOST DEFINITELY THERE!

    so... now what?
is there anything else I CAN do on the non-chipped PS2 of mine? is there a post-final stage I need to preform after applying FMCB on my memory card??

And the most important questions that need answering:
Is it possible to preform an installation of FMCB in a way that it will tell me that installation completed successfully.
but it will work only on chipped PS2s?
or will somehow from some reason not work on SilverSlim with BIOS version like SCPH-79001?

thank you so much if you have anything to say that will shed some light on this, as I'm pretty sure FMCB is real since it worked for too people I talked to over the internet to be fake.

please, if you can say just yes its possible or no - be sure to tell me what did I do wrong or it will not help me.
I'm sorry if I sound too blunt but getting FMCB to work was everything I put my hopes on for some time now and I hope my hopes aren't getting shattered by some random FMCB bugs...

    PS2 MODEL is SCPH-79001, the PS2 is Silver-Slim
should work on that, it doesn't work on some new models 9000x with 8c date code and above (new bios)
if i'm mistaken please do correct me

you probably tried a cross region install but since you didn't state your friends ps2 model we can't tell from that...

dude if you and your friends PS2s are the same region do a Multi-install and it should work if they are in the same Region .

and if you have a new models 9000x with 8c date code and above it doesnot work as lolwut said.

thanks a bunch for the speedy reply!

how can I tell a PS2's original region?

mine (SilverSlim) is USA, at least I think that much because a friend from the USA gave it to me as a gift.

I just retried the installation and noticed something that has happenned before but I forgot about it
before "successful installation completed" or something like that

it said "BOOT.ELF is missing, continue anyways?" Im not sure about the "BOOT" and about the ".ELF" but it was something like that
    still it did not work
maybe it has something to do with that, in that case FMCB is buggy because it should'nt have printed out to me "successful install" if it actually failed :-/

what is the exact structure of files I need to have in the USB Storage device having the install folder? what files are missing? and where do I get those USB-HD plugins from?

multi install? yeah I've seen that option
what does it mean? how does it differ from just plain ol' "Install"?
does it mena multi regional install?

if thats the case YES! I would chose that on the third attempt I'll do tomorrow of installing FMCB. I hope it won't fail me

this time I'll take my ps2 with me since Im sick and tired off of going back and forth with no results.

oh, I mis-read it the first time
"how can I tell a PS2's original region?" - saying that thinking thats what you asked...

model.. as in SCPH-7XXXXX..... I can not check that right now, only tomorrow

    why? when does it matters...?
(narrowing the 'matters' variables to - its Matrix-infinity chipped, slim black and FMCB worked on it)

tomorrow night I will figure out the exact model, though I will not be able to write anything here, only read (stupid internet limitation on where I work.. I could see gmail subscribed-thread's posts thingy but not connect to this site)

@ Miki800, the BOOT.ELF your talking about is ULe (Ulaunch). It needs to be in the install folder on the root of your USB thumb drive.

And also ESR.ELF, HDLOADER.ELF, and SMS.ELF, all items that are in the noobie package, found in my signature..

ok guys, I done some reading and this is what I found out I did wrong (+ more info):

the chipped PS2 model is SCPH-79004 Black Slim, its REGION is probably EUROPE or something else but definitly not USA/

my unhacked PS2 model is , as stated already before - SCPH-79001 Silver Slim, its REGION is definitly USA.

about my other problems, I did not have BOOT.elf and USBHD.IRX
after fixing that miss-age it still did not worked on the unhacked one

but now I know - THE REASON IS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT SHARE THE SAME REGION!

this is why it will not work - the FMCB's site says so.

so now Im stuck, totally f*cked :-(

I need to find a friend with hacked PS2 with a REGION of USA or to trade my SilverSlim for another SilverSlim that has REGION of the same thing as the hacked PS2 I have access to.

UNLESS - THERE IS A WAY TO CHANGE THE "REGION" "SIGNATURE-THINGY" OF A CHIPPED PS2...

is there? if there is such a way this will solve all my problems.

other then that - theoretically it is possible to make FMBC mem cards of some versions and regions, and then it is also possible to write a hacked-PS2-bootable-burned-cd PROGRAM

that can do a "DUMP" of all the data, all the 'bits' of the 8M mem card into an image and put that image file in a connected USB STORAGE DEVICE - then I would download that and use another such 'burned-program', boot it in the hacked PS2 and "MOLD" that image into my 8M mem card in a way that it will not be possible for the non-USA-region chipped-PS2 to leave its dirty signature over it

---- in that way which it will be bootable in my non-hacked PS2

    that would be increadible

but still Im only talking theoratically - not about anything I know someone has made yet

    any tips guys?

thanks dj, I figured that out myself when I had the time to read during the week

my problem was... heh that is funny...

the chipped PS2 does not have the ability to read USB thumb drives
I somehow understood the "boot with cd OR thumb drive" as an "AND" hahaha...
so I though - hey, I boot with the CD, and use the CD to copy stuff from the THUMB to the MC :P, which now I clearly know is not the case, so I reburned the CD properly this time and solved THAT problem by now, but as you can see by my post above I got myself other problems

    this one is tough alright!
