I know this probably is the wrong place for this, but you guys seem to know the most about the PS2, so I am asking here...

Basically I am curious if there is any way to trick the PS2 into using a USB stick for game saves.

I know I can transfer them with ULE, or Codebreaker, etc,..

But I would like to actually use the USB stick as a memory card, that way I have a few hundred megs of space, instead of a measly 8mb, that thing gets full after like 4-5 games, sometimes less depending on the games..

Yes but not for USB but HDD you have to alter the iso image of every game which imo isn't worth it.

    Same thing for USB.
Man a memory card isn't expensive enough to justify patching all your games to save on the USB.

A solution would be make some sort of disc that boots and leaves a "virus" or trojan on the PS2 ram to modify the driver for MC once the game is playing (same way as those early Datel MC worked. They needed a boot with a disc to make the PS2 accept the MC).

Eerm,... What you both wrote just matches, if he want to play from HD (I couldn't see, that he said that...).
If he want to save to USB and play from disc, it should work simply by starting a well configured HD-P. and insert the disc, he want to play with.

Indeed, there's a version of the HD-Project with USB-drivers, so it supports to USB as well..

Ok, I am going with what TNA said, it sounds the most like what I want to do..

    Thanks for the link man..

    ----

Edit: It seems it doesn't work with ESR, I tried using the ESR MC Boot.elf, then running HD_GUI.elf, it was working well, HD_GUI recognized the backup and was starting to boot it, I could see ESR running in the background, then it froze on a white screen...

So is there a better way, or something I missed, or is saving with this method only good for originals/HD users. ?

If so, FFG should integrate some of that code into ESR, so it can boot games, and hack the save mechanism..
