I have existing multiversion installations of Free MC Boot 1.6 on three different memory cards. What would be the safest/best way to update these installations to the latest FMCB codebase? What are the typical things that could go wrong, and how to resolve them? I've understood that the multiversion installation needs to be uninstalled 1st before the new version can be installed, because simply even formatting the card may not deal with that. Can the 1.8b installer manage this, or do I need to run the old 1.6 installer first for the uninstalling task? Mind you, I have some saves on said memory cards that I'd rather not loose, so formatting them is not really the solution I'd wanna use first.

i think the 1.8 installer has an option to undo multi install, so you can use it.

the safest way is to try installing on one card, and keep two other as fallbacks, in case something goes wrong.

If you have any version of ULE, you can back up your saves to a usb device, then zap the card.

you must do a unintstall via fmcb installer on a multi-install MC before upgrading. if you don't problems can occur later.

What about the .CNF file(s) from the previous install? Should I nix those before installing the new FMCB version, or have they already been standardized to a point where some old settings, used by some old builds of FMCB, won't cause any hiccups to the new version?

And what about the file naming/folder structure of the installation on the memory card? Has it changed between versions, or can I just merrily overwrite all the old folders and files without having to delete/rearrange something 1st?

And finally, would now be a good time to update, or is something awesome coming in the next release?

EDIT: Never mind. I decided to take my chances after all and just installed the new binaries over the old ones. I uninstalled the old 1.6 multi-installation first, of course. Card number one is still running silky smooth. I seemed to notice that loading times have even improved a bit. Good show, lads.
