Hi, just now I tried to install FreeMcBoot using my MGS 3 disc and the swap trick method. I followed the instructions on the freemcboot site and did everything exactly as it told me to, but when I selected the "CAMOUFLAGE DOWNLOAD" button the screen went black for about 10 seconds, brought up the screen showing the two memory cards that were inserted with "Reading disc..." in the center and then faded to a red screen which said something along the lines of "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc".

I don't know what could have went wrong, the only thing I can guess is that the burnt disc I was using wasn't high enough quality (I don't know what constitutes high quality, I just used whatever was around the house, which was an "imation DVD-R 16x".

My PS2's model number is SCPH-39001. If anyone knows what else could have went wrong, or if anyone knows if my disc is in fact of low quality, it would be appreciated.

I'm going to be away for the weekend, so I won't be able to reply to anything.
Again, any help at all would be appreciated, or if you need any more information just ask.

Someone say something, ANYTHING. Just tell me what brand of CDs you used.

I don't know too much about the swap trick since I have never attempted one successfully, but I can tell you that one reason as to why you couldn't get it done is because your discs are indeed of too low quality.

Use Verbatim DVD-R discs (With Super AZO) that are manufactured by Mitsubishi or Taiyo Yuden. Avoid those made by CMC.

I used to have the same console model as you have, and it has a KHS-400C laser that refused to read any of my cheap discs that can be read by my SCPH-77006 console.
    Unmodified SCPH-77006 with SM 3.6
SCPH-39006 with M-chip modchip, SCPH-10281 NA and refurb Seagate 80GB HDD
SCPH-10000 v1.00 with SCPH-10190 PCMCIA NA and SCPH-20400 HDD unit

Huh, just tried it yesterday with the new discs and it still didn't work. Any chance the memory card would affect it this early on? I don't have the original one the console came with, so I guess mine might not work for some reason.

For general information, I have used 007 Agent Under Fire and it worked fine using the official guide.
