Before I install it, I have to ask(I searched around for an answer, forgive me if I missed it), does the installer update 1.6?

What I mean by that is kinda like when you install Windows, you have a clean install option, and an upgrade option.

If I were to install 1.7, directly over 1.6, would that work without causing any problems?

Would it overwrite my current configuration? (Does it forward your old options and menu configurations to the new configuration file?)

    (And a bonus question...)
Is there a patch for codebreaker to boot into FMCB instead of BOOT.ELF? (The patch for starting HDL games...And better yet is there a patch to start HDL directly(where you can configure the patch yourself)? Though I'm sure I could find that somewhere else I just thought I would slip that in here. )

    There shouldn't be any problem.

Installer ask for cnf overwrite. Tell it to don't do so, when you run the configurator the existing options in the cnf will be loaded (except for autoboot, as it changed its name to fastboot).

Check all your settings if you want and save the cnf with your former options in the updated cnf file.

Dunno, but it can probably be easily edited to run another elf, but you certainly can't boot into fmcb, and it would be pointless as your codes will most likely be gone in fmcb bootup, as well as if you try to boot ule, then hdl (but it will work with ESR directly).

    I'm not really sure though.

It sounds to me as if this guy has been using the patched CodeBreaker and its ability to launch either mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF or mass:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF, which will work fine for a user booting uLE with the old exploit, since the BOOT.ELF in B?DATA-SYSTEM has lower priority in the CodeBreaker game launch as patched by ffgriever.

But when such a user wants to switch to FMCB instead, uLE is installed as BOOT/BOOT.ELF so that the old usage doesn't work anymore. And now he's probably a bit confused about how to do it, especially since his previous usage never made him aware of the alternate filename "CB_launch.elf" which ffgriever's patches will look for before searching for "BOOT.ELF".

All he really needs to do in order to fix everything is to store HDLoader as BOOT/CB_launch.elf instead (either on mass: or mc0, and then everything should work just as before again, except that he now also has the FMCB/OSDSYS menu to use for launching stuff.

and it would be pointless as your codes will most likely be gone in fmcb bootup,
Not necessarily. Consider the fact that ESR 'survives' an OSDSYS restart, as long as no physical reset is involved. But I still agree with you that using CodeBreaker this way would probably end in disaster anyway.

as well as if you try to boot ule, then hdl (but it will work with ESR directly).
Since uLE has an option to disable its IOP reset, it might then be possible to use uLE for launching HDL after being launched by CodeBreaker, but even so I again agree that it would be a bad idea (and completely unnecessary) to complicate matters this way.

He should just store HDLoader (or ESR) as BOOT/CB_launch.elf and let the patches by ffgriever do the work they're intended for.

It works !. After selecting cheats from patched Codebreaker it will search for the CB_launch.elf since i don't have an elf named like this it will start BOOT.ELF which is ULE. From there i start HDloader (at the moment i have a defective laser). In ULE Reset IOP is on. I use this method for a while now. I also tried the PS2Browser function from ULE which brings you back to the OSDSYS and selected HDloader from FMCB cheats still working. Maybe my defective laser would interfere with the normal behaviour of the IOP but at the moment these are my results.

dlanor maybe you give me the answer to this : my PS2 just give up to read the disc and give read error. Will Reset IOP in ULE do anything after that ? i mean will it reset it or is there nothing to be reset after the read error ? or am i wrong ?

EDIT: Made another test : Codebreaker cheats activated after that booted to ULE chose reboot.elf (Free Vast Continues) ( little app written by suloku ) from mass: and FMCB started selected HDloader and the cheats from Codebreaker were still active.

Also tried reboot.elf as CB_launch.elf. The codes are still active

    best regards

I don't think your defective laser would help anything to work which would not work on a normal console, so your results are probably valid for other consoles too.

dlanor maybe you give me the answer to this : my PS2 just give up to read the disc and give read error. Will Reset IOP in ULE do anything after that ? i mean will it reset it or is there nothing to be reset after the read error ? or am i wrong ?
IOP is not just used for reading CDVD discs, but is used for all PS2 IO drivers, and the 'IOP reset' used in uLE and other programs is a way to clean out old drivers so we can start over with a clean slate. This is needed because some drivers can't be properly reinitialized for use by another application than the one that loaded it.

So regardless of how your CDVD drive is working (or not) the 'IOP reset' always affects many other things too.

But it does not completely clean out the RAM of either processor (I have no idea even how to try to do such a thing), and your test results imply that the TSR cheat engine which CodeBreaker installs can survive a normal software IOP reset (TSR == Terminate & Stay Resident).

EDIT: Made another test : Codebreaker cheats activated after that booted to ULE chose http://psx-scene.com/forums/434986-post3320.html (Free Vast Continues) this little app from mass: and FMCB started selected HDloader and the cheats from Codebreaker were still active.
And these tests indicate that the CodeBreaker cheat engine is even more persistent than any of us had expected, surviving all that work of uLE, FMCB, and HDLoader in sequence, which is quite impressive.

In any case these results are all good, as it means that we are likely to succeed with just about any scheme we come up with for launching a game after selecting cheats in CodeBreaker. (As long as we avoid physical reset of course.)

Now we just need a way to block CodeBreaker's attempts to access USB on slim PStwo consoles from v14 and on (since CodeBreaker freezes at startup on these consoles if any USB device is connected).

    Best regards: dlanor

This what I did to launch ESR automatically after selecting the cheats btw I do not use Hdl since I do not have a HD on my console... I did it using FMCB 1.6 I have not installed 1.7 yet but I assume it would not make a difference (correct me if i'm wrong please)...
