Ok as the title says I have a PS2 Ver:4 30001 and have come to the conclusion my laser can not read a DVD-R+R. I have Free McBoot and used DVD Decrypter to rip and write my game. I used Playo DVD+R at 2.4X speed and no good. I then used Verbatim DVD-R at 4X speed and same result. I took my Memory Card with FMCB and both disks to a friends and they played fine on his PS2 slim. This tells me that there is nothing wrong with either my Memory Card or Disks. My question is am I just out of luck tring to use my old PS2 or are there any other options I could try? Apreciate any help. Ohh and let me just say I am new to all this and who ever created FMCB THANKS Great Work.

i had v4 30004 some time ago and i would even have problems with burned dvd-video disks. only dvd-r tdk disks would work, even after buying a brand new laser. pressed dvds work perfectly, though.

you might try installing a better laser unit in the ps2, but that would involve hacking with lenschanger, and i know next to nothing about it.

I been doing some research and probally my laser is just going out on me. It plays games but the "Reading Disk" logo has to flash about 23 times before reading the disk and I just cleaned it and oiled the tracks like 3 weeks ago. I will try to use some alcohol to clean it better this time and see if that helps. Seems I am better off buying a used Slim off of craigslist for $60 cause they are selling lasers for the same price.

there is still hdcombo/hdconnect. don't know how reliable is that solution, though.

That is not even available for modern slims, as all models later than v13 lack the chip which contains the IDE interface. Without that chip on the motherboard those kits are useless.

So v12 and v13 are the only slim models which can use the IDE interface.

    Best regards: dlanor

I have a V4 35001 and the exact same problem as you. I've burned 4 different games on 3 different types of media, and none of them work. Then I tried just putting a burned DVD-R movie and that disk wouldn't read either. It even has a little trouble reading PS1 disks. So yeah, I've come to the conclusion that the console just has a weak laser.

It sucks, but at least now I have a better way of loading HD Loader thanks to Free MCBoot.

for ps2 version this old, try choose media with low speed
for mine example, a ntsc/j 30000 ps2, can't read 16x dvdr at all, a bit difficult with 8x and smooth run with 4x media
and of course u need to find some media which do really suit ur console as well

Have you opened it up and adjusted the laser?

I have a v4 30001 and mine reads pressed DVDs and PSX games almost instantly. Yesterday I tried to mess about with the laser but no luck, but my problem may be the media just looking at your dilemma.

I did notice that at certain heights even PS2-DVDs wouldn't read. Just some food for thought.
