Problem launching elfs from Osdsys menu.
Problem launching elfs from Osdsys menu. –
A recent power failure has caused me to have to reinstall FMCB.
I store all my elfs on an external 50gb usb hdd except for uLE which is on my memory card.
Now before the reinstall I could launch elfs from the main menu of FMCB, but for some reason I no longer can launch anything except uLE. It says loading then it reloads FMCB.
But I can launch them fine if I open uLaunchELF first.
My PS2 model is SCPH-70011
FMCB is installed on both Memor32 card and standard 8mb sony card.
The external hdd is working fine via uLE and on my PC.
Might anyone be of help?
Hey bro, check the link in my signature of my youtube page, on how to add items to the OSDSYS (BROWSER) screen. And save / make a cnf file......DJ
I already have them on the main menu, as I stated they won't start.
Make sure that the paths are 100% correct(even if you think that they are correct,it wont take you too much time to reconfigure the paths again)
I think I encounter something like that several times before and the problem was damaged FREEMCB.CNF file.Delete the file by using ule(it's in SYS-CONF folder)and reconfigure everything again.
The easiest way to know if that file is damaged is by coping it to your PC and drag-drop it to notepad,if it contains a lot of unknown characters then that means it's damaged(when it was damaged in my case I wasn't able to add anything new to the OSD menu)
Ok... That is weird.
I turned on my PS2 to try what vsub suggested, but before doing that I decided to try booting an elf again and it's working just fine again.
Should I still try fixing the problem where it seems to have fixed itself or should I let sleeping dogs lie?
Just to be sure check your FREEMCB.CNF file
well sometimes it takes the hdd a minuete or two to kick in and if you try booting the elf at that time it wouldn't work. It has happened to me a couple of time but a bit of another sort, the whole fmcb just hangs when booting if the hdd is not detected correctly. for this reason I let fmcb boot without external hdd connected then I select the app that I want to run(btw all of my apps are on the memory card, and it is better to keep them on the memory card because there is lesser headaches) then after the app loads for example Ule or usb advance then i connect the ext hdd and it works fine this way

Ok it started f*ing up again, I tried what vsub said.
I opened my cnf file with notepad and all the paths where correct, so I deleted the cnf and started again.
I ran the FMCB's configurator elf and set the paths for the elfs on my hdd.
And it still won't work.
walidahmadi, I would do it that way (store the elfs on the memcard) but I don't have a big enough card for that.
I even tried using a usb thumb drive thinking maybe it was a problem with my hdd.
If it helps, the first time I installed FMCB I used the version from the official release thread but the second time I used the "noobie package" from sksapps because for some reason at the time psx-scene wouldn't load for me.
the noobie package is just fine. It is the same file but with the recommended apps (Homebrews). So that one that would need it won't have to install it manually.
OK here is the thing. I have an official sony 8mb memory card, and I have everything installed in there. and whenever I need some space I just copy and psupaste (Ofcourse in UlaunchElf) them on my thumbdrive to take a backup. That way I can have whatever I want on the 8mb memory card
I think the problem is probably some compatibility issue with some cheap thumbdrives or usb hdds or usb to hdd connecters (As in my case).
So there you go, as of now I haven't figured out any other alternative way, other than backup my game saves and make room for all the other apps on the memory card.

2. If you need to store the .elf files on the HDD, you can run them from uLE. See link below for details (specifically post #6). *Warning the linked abbreviated tutorial is not for those who can't use a text editor or configure uLE.
3. If you keep a correctly configured FREEMCB.CNF file on the root of the FMCB boot-up compatible USB device, as well as keep the apps in the place where the .cnf says it will boot from the USB stick first, bypassing the .cnf and files on the MC.
Some USB storage devices can be recognized by uLE 4.39 and the FMCB installer, but hang when FMCB tries to boot. I have two such devices that were fixed by using the USBD.IRX and USBHDFSD.IRX from uLE 4.39.
If this is your problem see the thread below for details on how to get those files and where to put them.
BTW- In my tests I was able to make FMCB boot 2 seconds faster by keeping the FREEMCB.CNF and all apps but uLE on my USB stick. For more details on this see link below.
