Problem installing FMCB 1.8 w/ CD
Problem installing FMCB 1.8 w/ CD –
First of all - and since I'm new to this forum - I'd like to thank you all on the amazing work you're doing on the PS2 scene.
Pretty impressive stuff indeed =).
Now for my predicament:
I have a fat PS2 (SCPH-39004) with no mod-chip installed so I use the SwapMagic v3.3 discs for all my backup needs.
However, I'm interested in installing FMCB 1.8 on my memory card (original Sony 8Mb) and that's where I'm having some issues.
I've noticed that none of my USB pen drives work on my PS2 - I tried formatting those as FAT, FAT32 and even NTFS but no go - so I decided to boot the FMCB installer using a burned CD along with SwapMagic.
I got the CD to boot and the FMCB GUI to show up but I can't seem to install anything besides the FMCB itself.
I've created the CD in CDGenPS2v3 and used the "Noobie Package" INSTALL folder that contains everything I need - ESR.ELF, SMS.ELF, etc.
However, when I choose to do an installation on FMCB it says that it can't find the USBD.IRX files on the INSTALL/MODULES folder, nor can it find the BOOT.ELF on the INSTALL folder - but the files are there!
I've tried putting the INSTALL folder on one of my pen drives and boot the FMCB installer with the pen connected to the PS2 but that does absolutely nothing for me, so fixing the CD issue is my only hope.
Is there anything in particular I might need to do on CDGenPS2v3 besides fixing the SYSTEM.CNF LBA to make the PS2 read the files on the INSTALL folder?
Sorry for the long post but I'm just trying to get specific help since I've read about every tutorial I could find on this matter and that still didn't help my situation =(.
Thank you very much =).
Try with 1.8b, it should be fixed, from what I tested on PCSX2.
Please report the result
Thank you, jimmikaelkael.
Will give it a try in a couple of minutes. I'll let you know the outcome
FMCB 1.8b worked like a charm!
I did the exact same procedure as with the 1.8 installer, only this time I got no errors whatsoever.
I did experience a bug, tho.
My controller - which is connected to the first port - wasn't working after the installation so I had to use the second port on the PS2 to get around.
I did some tweaks on the FMCB configuration menu and it started working all of a sudden, so that's taken care of.
My pen drive seems to be working now since uLaunchELF is able to browse it.
Can't really run anything with ESR tho since it tells me all my media is invalid, and if I choose to Launch CDVD or APP the screen turns black and nothing happens.
SMS recognizes my USB pen drive but I can't see any of the files in it.
Am I still missing something in my configuration?
Thank you for your help!
About the pad problem, the setting you changed is pad_delay ?
I did change the value from 0.0 up to 10.0 and changed it back to 0.0 (without restarting or saving).
After that, I also targeted the URBD.IRX from "default" to the actual file on the Memory Card (on the uLaunchELF setting screen).
In the end I turned off the PS2 using the power button on the back, turned it back on and it was working.
Not sure if this offers any help, but still
ok, so it was a temporary problem...
Don't know why but seems the pad1 init have failed at first.
No problems to launch elfs with button launch ? (with a pad_delay to 0)
The pad is working flawlessly now - pad_delay 0.0
I tried running the ESR r6b ELFs (just for testing purposes) from my USB pen drive using uLaunchELF and it worked.
However, my PS2 froze shortly after that with nothing more than a pink screen.
Is it possible that I might need to update the USB IRX files?
The 'Default' setting means that uLaunchELF will use a "USBD.IRX" driver that is embedded in the program, and for modern uLE versions that should be the same driver as installed in "SYS-CONF/" for FMCB. So the only difference is that uLE will have to load the file externally with your new settings. It should work just as well with the default driver.

The other one is just for the low-level hardware interface.
However, for modern versions of uLE both default drivers should be the same as those used for FMCB anyway. So it really shouldn't make any difference which drivers you use.

First of all, thanks for the enlightenment, dlanor .
I had no idea uLE had embedded drivers for USB devices so it kinda made sense to target the ones FMCB installed on my Memory Card.
The reason why I asked about updating the USB files was that I'm experiencing issues with my pen drives in USB Advanced (not related to FMCB I guess, since this happened before as well as after the installation).
My USB device pops up on the menu for about 2 seconds, showing the games I have installed on it only to vanish and never be seen again until I reset the PS2.
I can access it through uLE with no problem whatsoever.
SMS detects the pen drive but doesn't show any of the files on it (mp3s, AVIs, etc).
Is there anything I can do to solve this?
Thank you very much for all the replies and quick support
