Possession lost over my PS2

Hello people!

I have two models of PS2 - 79004 and 90008. The first one is unmodified, the second one is mod-chipped (Modbo 4).
A long time ago I have successfully installed FMCB on my Sony 8 MB memory card. Now this memory card is gone and I want to take control over my PS2 again.
I know that it is not possible to install FMCB using console made for other region. However, I have tried to install from 90008 and had no success (79004 shows Memory Card Browser instead of desired FMCB logo).

I am already thinking about "007 Nightmare"...

Is there any possibility to create memory card from PC? What is needed for it? I mean, mcid, right bios...
Maybe I can use PCSX2 with memory card dump of my Sony 8 MB? Btw, I have bios dump of my 79004.

P.S. Any PCSX2 I have tried to run FMCB installer, freezes input after the first keypress while installer GUI is working (blue hover is updating).

No, this is impossible, as the encoding of the files depends on the MC itself.
For an emulator that will be an MC emulation file. which will not have the same MagicGate ID as the real memory card.

For the current purpose that is irrelevant, as an emulator can't do this job.

Weren't the first installations made by first extracting the mcid and then insert it in the KELF on the pc side ?

That is true, but you need a way to boot homebrew on the system to fire up the elf that will retrieve the MCID. So it's no solution to get FMCB or it's predecessors to the mc without any way of booting homebrew in first place.

It may function that a console that is not the same region (MagicGate) than the target console can retrieve the MCID to make a working exploit on the pc for the target console but this would a step backwards since this exploit would be outdated.

Can I look FMCB source code? I don't really understand why can't I read mcid using exploited/modchipped console and then pass this value to pc, where having all the needed stuff I would be able to create encrypted file - osdmain.elf (which is the only thing I need... I think)

Well there are only a very few privileged people that have the source code for FMCB. It will most likely not ever be released to the public, for many reasons. Mostly because of greedy people, putting it out for their own product.

Well i said it before and i'll say it again.....

Anyone who is looking for the source codes for FMCB will only find the older 1.7 available and that is what everyone can use if they need the source of FMCB. Granted it doesnt have all the stuff 1.8b has, but it is something you can freely experiment with, but you will have to find it on your own.:chinscrat

So if you think you can somehow use the source code to get FMCB installed on your MC, then theres your option on that. But let me ask, if you did manage to edit the source files & compile them, how will you run it on your PS2 to check your work? A modchip & FMCB isnt a reliable method due to the 'conflict of modules' on startup.
If you think just reading thru the code will help, i cant see how since there still going to be a missing variable to the equation....the actual MC. You still need to run some homebrew to even get the MC's ID or place it on the MC.

You might be successful using the first methods (OsDatel), but i just cant see how the source files can help. You can find that info on the first page of the Free McBoot thread:

@Tim: I guess you need to learn how the encryption and KELF-Resigning for MC works.

Most of the interesting and (for you) relevant stuff, including pictures which explain the structure/resigning are in the "FreeVast Continues"-Thread inside the FMCB-Subforum (the first up to 20 pages, but you can skip a lot of posts).

So,... A short explaination.

The MC-Hardware-ID (NOT, what is called "MCID" <-- This is the final KELF-MC-Key) can be extracted from any PS2 regardless of its MG-region.
The "MCID", which is generated relies on a few things.

Most important to know for you.
-MG-Region
-DVDELF-Size

If all DVDELFs you have were from a different region, but still byte-wise exacly the same size it should be possible to generate a valid MCID for your other region PS2.
The generation-process is independent from the PS2, but you need the MC-Hardware-ID (no way to read it without a PS2 as of yet) which is why the entire process is done now on the PS2.
Another reason why it is entirely done on the PS2 is, because the DVDELF.bin must be decrypted in some way.

That is a rather short and incomplete explaination, but you can´t expect all knowledge in 3-4 sentences.
