Playing Backups and NTSC versions help.
Playing Backups and NTSC versions help. –
04-13-2012,01:16 PM
Hi,
I apologise in advance if this happens to be in the wrong section or if i break a specific rule. (I have been through the rules and searched around but it is difficult to read through so many topics finding a specific result
).
Any ways,
I have FMCB installed on to a memory card via the noobie package method. My question is, how do i go about exactly creating a backup game so that it will run with FMCB (i hear a lot of talk about ESR). Secondly, i have an NTSC version of FF12 (to overcome the 50hz pal conversion), how would i go about creating a backup of this game so it will run with FMCB on my PAL playstation. (again i hear talk of ESR patching).
Any advice would be grateful thank you.
*I have a PS2 Slim silver, 75003*

I would advise to use OPL 0.8 for start of games.

Playstation 2 SCPH-50008 FreeMCboot 1.8b Network Adapter HDD Seagate 40гб PSP-2008 6.60 МЕ-1.8 PS3 CEСHC-08 60гб 4.21

I should of stated at the start, im an extreme rookie at this and will most likely require a step by step guide or something to go about this
. Apologies in advance.
What is OPL exactly ?

OPL is the special program for PS2 allowing to start game on PS2 through flash card USB on a network from the personal computer, and also from internal HDD on PS2 FAT
unfortunately I can't place here references yet, esteem about OPL 0.8 you can in the corresponding subsection PS2 of a forum

If you want to use ESR, just copy the game onto your computer using IMGBURN or similar program, download ESR disc patcher GUI from here, patch the ISO with ESR disc patcher, then burn the newly patched ISO at lowest possible speed.

I have a program called momenta (used for the FCMB install) will that work in place of the ESR (and will this work for an NTSC disc aswell ?)

Most of what you say is correct except for the last phrase.
Burning at lowest possible speed is a bad idea for most high quality discs, since those are optimized for burning at a mid-range speed.
Speeds in the range 4x through 8x are usually fine for high quality DVD-R discs certified for 16x usage.
It can vary with your PS2 CDVD reader too, so never assume that what's perfect for yourself must be perfect for everyone else.

"momenta" ??? What the heck is that and where did it come from ?
I've never ever heard of any PS2 related program by that name before.
The closest would be the 'Memento' firmware (so NOT a normal program) used with the Memor32 cards.
That firmware uses methods similar to those of FMCB and ESR for booting disc backups, patched in a way compatible to the ESR patching.
But once you have installed FMCB on that memory card you no longer have Memento installed, since they can't coexist.
Installing either one of them automatically replaces the other. (They need to use the same folder and the same filenames...)
So once you've installed FMCB and ESR, those completely replace Memento (which is no longer needed at all).
The Memento Disc Patcher can be used as an alternative to the ESR disc patcher on your PC, since they modify ISO files in the same way.
But the ESR disc patcher is better as it can both patch and unpatch ISO files, and supports both drag-drop and browsed file selection.
And it's ESR you'll be using to boot any patched disc (can be auto-invoked by insertion of patched discs when properly installed).
As for the region problem you worried about (PAL vs NTSC), that is not really a problem at all when using ESR to boot a disc. This boot method completely eliminates the normal region blocking which only allows original discs from the same region as the console. So when booting via ESR the only potential region problem is that the game will use its native video mode, just as if booted on a console of the same region. So you will need a TV/monitor which can handle both NTSC and PAL video signals. But in my experience most modern TV sets sold in Europe can do this (unlike some similar sets sold in USA, which often handle only NTSC).
Best regards: dlanor

Thanks dlanor.
I ment "Momento" disc patcher, the a was a typo
I'll continue to use Momento Disc patcher as that is what i have used with the FCMB swap trick. Last question though, doing this to an NTSC copy will still work on a PAL machine with FCMB as long as the tv i use can display NTSC correct ?
