No data on card
I installed freemcboot on a memory card. It seemed to be working fine at first. Then I turned on my PS2 recently and it didn't show freemcboot, but just the regular menu. After resetting a few times, it finally loaded freemcboot. But now it doesn't load no matter how much I reset, and when I check the data browser it says the memory card is empty. I definitely didn't delete anything on the memory card and I'd rather not go through the process of installing freemcboot again because it took a very long time and a lot of tries. Is there any chance the data is still on the card? I recently installed a hard drive but I'm not sure how this could have uninstalled it. How can I prevent this from happening again?
Have you tried inserting your card into your PS2's other Memory Card slot? Try cleaning the contacts of the card too.

Is your card a genuine Sony 8MB Memory Card? If it isn't, it probably isn't too surprising that it has become like that.
I have a 32 mb non-official Sony 8mb, and it sometimes has problems also, namely with FreeMCBoot. It would be a hit and miss with whether it would load it at all, so finally I just uninstalled from that card and installed to the 8 mb. Works perfectly every time now. I can still use my 32 mb card for pretty much anything else, just sometimes has a problem with FreeMCBoot.
I got it working. Cleaning with alcohol worked. It was an official Sony 8mb.
excellent. some non genuine cards are just a bit too slow to read and FMBC doesnt get read at boot quick enough.
its mostly the cheap Chinese 64 and 128 Mb cards this happens to.
