Even then (if you simply want to test FMCB [its loader]), you can do it on PCSX2 without an install.
An install on PCSX2s virtual mc probably wonīt work because of more than one reason.

One of them beeing, that PCSX2 lacks the MG-Decryption (afaik).
But probably you can test the FMCB-Loader (decrypted) on PCSX2 (even thought, I didnīt tested it).

This post is just to emphasize what TnA said about the unsuitability of using psuPaste or most other MC backup systems to back up a 'Multi-Version' install of FMCB.

The content of the MC for such a 'Multi-Version' setup is slightly abnormal in that it contains multiple filename entries for a single binary file. This is the best way to do it without wasting space. But the fact that all the filename entries reuse the same storage space is only 'known' internally to the MC FAT tables, and will be lost whenever a backup is made.

So the backup will contain those filenames as representing separate binary files, which will normally use 22 times the space that was needed on the original MC. So if that backup PSU file is later restored to a physical MC again, the FMCB binaries will allocate 21 additional copies of the main boot file as compared to the original installation.

That problem is bad enough with the small 75KB boot file of a well made installation, resulting in a loss of 1575KB on that memory card. But if the original installation was made on a fat PS2, without having added the slim DVDELF.BIN to the installer package, then each boot file binary will be appx 1.4 MB, and the total storage space loss of the backup will then be 29.4 MB, making it impossible to restore to a standard 8MB MC.

    Long story short:
NEVER use psuPaste or any other file-based backup system for Multi-Version FMCB !!!

There is no problem using it for gamesaves and other folders on the same MC, of course.
But never use it to backup FMCB itself, in its "B?EXEC-SYSTEM" folders.

    Best regards: dlanor

And I wasn't talking about multi-installs. I only do normal installs and they work great. this is what I'm talking about on psu pasting.

Yes, that is of course true.

Since the single-version install only contains a single filename for the boot file it is only stored as a perfectly normal file, so such a "B?EXEC-SYSTEM" folder can be backed up by any method.

But it is also limited in its ability to boot on other consoles then. Not necessarily demanding exactly the same model as the install was made on, but definitely not booting on all the consoles of that region. So I always prefer to use 'Multi-version' install anyway.

and I forgot to mention that I use the DVDELF from slim consoles as that seems to be more compatible. It's how I avoid the need to use mulit-install.

But the PSU-Function still isnīt necessary for the "double-region-install" in this case.

Just because of JAP and US-PS2s use different "B?EXEC-SYSTEM"-Folders.
