    Hi,
I haven't tried yet to even download FMCB ,I'm researching it first
I found out that i can't have my ps2 boot fromthe MC since its datecode is 9d (I bought it last week in greece) but what i want to ask is:
    1. Can I install it even though it won't work?

    2. Can I have ESR Run by itself as if i'm installing mcboot (By putting the .elf file in a disk and run it)?

    3. If i have mcboot installed on my MC is there any way to start it other than direct booting?

If i come up with more questions i will ask so keep an eye on me and thanks in advance.

-Yes, installing does work on every PS2.
-Booting from MC on power-on/reset is not possible for your PS2-Model.
-You can still 'start/launch' FMCB from uLE or the FMCB-Installer, but you need a way to start Homebrew before, which FMCB couldn't be in your case, since it simply doesn't auto-boot from MC in your case.

    2. Can I have ESR Run by itself as if i'm installing mcboot (By putting the .elf file in a disk and run it)?
-The ELF-File isn't 'put on disc', but the UDF-Filesystem-Descriptor is patched by the ESR-/Memento-Patchers.
-The ESRGUI or one of the ESR-'Mini-ELFs', are started from some other storage-medium (USB, MC).
-Yes you can start your patched backups with ESR.
If you have a way to start Homebrew on your PS2 (for example with a SwapMagic-'Coder-'Disc [those with an ELF-loder...]), you don't need to swap or anything of that stuff...

    3. If i have mcboot installed on my MC is there any way to start it other than direct booting?
Yes, as stated above you can start it through uLE with the "OSDSYS"-Subprogramm, which is listed under the MISC-Pseudodevice within the uLE-filebrowser.

If i come up with more questions i will ask so keep an eye on me and thanks in advance.
    Hope that helps.

    best regards

So basically , if I can install it I can just use the installer as if I'm re-installing or something & just launch it , cool man that really helps and I'm definitely going for it.

Another question just popped up :
    1. I'm probably going to install the noobie package but what if I want to install an extra app like USB Advance ,Do I have to remake the installation folder and add the files or there is a way to install it independently?

    2. Suppose I put an original disc and swap with my disc with the installer to run FMCB ,when do I insert the disc that I awnt to play using ESR? After the launch of FMCB or the installer?(I only asked because I couldn't help noticing that ESR is all automatic , I think).

Thanks in advance and thanks for the quick response.

I would definitely advise against this use of the FMCB installer.

Since you are going to need a non-FMCB boot method anyway, it would make better sense to use that method to boot uLE (which you will need anyway), rather than to boot the FMCB installer each time. As stated in a previous post, uLE also has a 'subprogram' command to launch FMCB (which works even on your console), and that command can easily be placed in the 'quick-launch' menu of uLE, allowing activation by a single button press. It can even be defined as an auto-launch application so that uLE will launch FMCB without any button pressing needed (except if you want to halt that launch).

The effective result of the latter is that starting uLE will instead cause FMCB to start, regardless of the method you used to start uLE...

Another question just popped up :

No. Anything you like can be added or modified later.

This is one of the many cases where you will need to use uLE, so as to copy stuff you want on the MC from other devices, by using the uLE FileBrowser (one of many uLE subprograms). Then you can use the OSDSYS command of uLE to start FMCB where you use its Configurator to define the new menu entries and link them to the newly installed program files.

    2. Suppose I put an original disc and swap with my disc with the installer to run FMCB ,when do I insert the disc that I awnt to play using ESR? After the launch of FMCB or the installer?(I only asked because I couldn't help noticing that ESR is all automatic , I think).
What is automatic is how FMCB detects that a disc is in the tray, and also detects what kind of disc it is, so as to invoke ESR when that is appropriate for the disc present as FMCB is launched. This automation can also be disabled in configuration, so that discs will only be launched by FMCB when the user goes into the Sony Browser and selects the disc icon for a 'manual' launch. Then too will FMCB analyze what disc type it is and invoke ESR if appropriate.

But you seem to believe that FMCB is needed in order to use ESR, which is not at all true.
ESR can also be used without FMCB, provided only that you have some other way of launching homebrews.

For example, on my own SCPH-90004 with datecode 9C and bios v2.30, I seldom bother to launch FMCB. I use a SwapMagic boot disc to launch uLE from MC, and then I do all my homebrew work via uLE without FMCB. One of the many uLE subprograms that I've put on the quick-launch menu is "MISC/PS2Disc". This command works very similar to how FMCB handles a disc in tray at boot time, so it can be used for booting all kinds of discs.

When you invoke the PS2Disc command its first action is to run the same internal disc analysis routine as used by FMCB (based on the same source code) so as to determine how best to deal with the disc in tray according to its nature as follows.

1: PS1 CD disc => uLE invokes the Sony PS1 Driver from ROM
2: PS2 CD or DVD original disc => uLE launches the PS2 game boot normally
3: DVD-Video ESR disc => uLE launches the ESR elf file from MC
4: DVD-Video movie disc => uLE launches the Sony DVD-Player from ROM

For case 3 above, it is the responsibility of the ESR elf to handle the game launch, which it will do differently depending on which ESR elf it really is. The GUI version from the noobie pack will require the user to choose specific ESR launch method in that GUI, whereas the 'dvdv direct' elf that I prefer will simply launch the game by the standard ESR method with no questions asked.

The net effect of the latter is that you hardly notice the difference between using ESR and original discs, except for the ESR logo being displayed for a short moment.

The only big difference in how this usage works on the latest model, as compared to those that can boot FMCB, is that I need to have the SwapMagic disc in the tray whenever I reboot or power-on the console, so as to get uLE started.

    Best regards: dlanor

Thank you for your great contribution, dlanor.

I did think after I posted this last post that since I am booting by disc swapping anyway I wouldn't need FMCB ,not to mention that since I haven't dealt with uLE yet I didn't know its full capability and that it can be used instead of FMCB.

Now what I'm gonna do is hack one of my .iso's to run uLE (using apache and because there's no way for me to obtain a swapmagic) , then I'm going to copy the homebrews I want to the MC from my flash driver and just keep swapping discs whenever I wanna use them.

One question though : I read that you can't do it with mortal kombat armageddon on the FMCB site,Is there a chance that whoever did that did something wrong?

    Thanks again everybody

    Hi all,

I have 90004 and also hd-pro 90xxx (not installed yet, i wonder how) there is a modbo 4.0 and laserfix inside.
do i have a possibility to easily use free mc boot, or ule and sms, etc? real noobie here.
I had an old ps2 fat, but the laser doesn't work anymore. i have plenty of games i didn't want to throw away (as ps3 had no ps2 support)
i thought it would be wise to get a new one with hdd, and my games stored on it. + extra features.

    Thanks, Shino
