Need help with install

Ok I have a sp2 slim 7500, and here is my problem I got swap magic 3.6 and I wanted to install free mcboot and sms on my sp2 Memory Card but for some reason only the swap magic dvd drivers disk works. I can make back ups of my games just fine on DvD-R, but the ps2 will not even see the swap magic 3.6 cd drivers disk. It see audio cd's and ps1 games just fine so I think it must be the swap magic cd disk. Now all I can find is tutorials on how to put free mcboot and sms on cd and flash drives. I need to know how to put it on a dvd and have it run, my verison of ps2 (from what I have read on the net) doesnt not work with almost all flash drives and my cd boot up disk is not working. So the only way I see of making this work is on a dvd and putting it in after using swap magic 3.6 dvd driver disk. If anyone could guide me on how to make this dvd with free mcboot and sms that boots after swap magic dvd it would be great

Your post does not mention uLaunchELF anywhere. Neither implicitly nor explicitly.
So I don't see why you post it here in the uLaunchELF forum.

Since your post deals mainly with problems of FMCB installation, you should have posted it in the "FreeVAST" forum (old name of a project that FMCB has replaced).

In any case you are making things needlessly complicated.

SwapMagic v3.6 has the ability to boot programs from a USB drive which is an excellent way of launching various homebrews (including uLaunchELF), which can then launch the FMCB installer from the same USB drive. So there is no need to fiddle around with burning a DVD specifically for FMCB installation (though that method too should work).

Go to the FreeVAST forum and search a bit, and I'm sure you'll find plenty of info on these methods.

sorry my mistake Im new to all this one of my problems is I cant find a usb/flash drive that my magic swap will see I have tried 6 usb and not one worked

If you have tried that many different drives (different brands too ?), then it is possible that you are making some consistent error that causes them all to fail.

Please doublecheck that you have all those drives formatted to FAT32 and nothing else.
NTFS or FAT (==FAT16) should not be used with PS2 software.

It is also important to realize that PS2 USB drivers only work with a single USB partition, so drives that contain extra utility partitions (like the 'u3 launchpad' and similar) will need to have those removed before the drive can be used with a PS2.

So when you create a folder named "SWAPMAGIC" in the root of such a drive and store a ps2 program renamed as "SWAPMAGIC.ELF" inside that folder, it is still ignored by SwapMagic when it boots up.

If so, then I guess those drives really are incompatible.

Perhaps the time has come for some 'name-calling' about precisely what drives you used, as compared to some that work for others.

I've had good results with Verbatim (1GB), Sandisk (2GB, 8GB, 16GB), HP (64MB [ancient], 1GB), as well as a LaCie 320GB USB HDD, and a Maxtec SD-card reader. For two of the Sandisk drives I had to use a 'launchpadremoval' tool before using the drives with PS2.

ok I have used a sandisk 1gig, iomega 256mb, 3 cheap no named ones and my friend's but i cant get any to work. I would really like to know if there is some way to but it on a dvd and start it up

I have a 75001 and i also tried a few usb sticks before it worked. Trust me when i say go to wal mart get a lexar firefly drive it will work automatically without formatting etc guranteed. as far as dvd, did you purchase swap magic? if not this may be part your problem. i am no "expert" but i did just install on the same ps2 as you have so hope that helps

I also use a Kingston 1GB data traveller on my SCPH-75001 and it works fine.

Have you tried using your SM 3.6 DVD to boot your SM 3.6 CD
Sometimes it will work, if not then its a bad disk.

If it works then install fmcb 1.7 by CD method.
