Modded Slim PS2 installation problems
Modded Slim PS2 installation problems –
11-29-2009,07:43 PM
I own a 79001 NTSC Slim PS2 with a Modbo modchip (fake Matrix Infinity).
I already installed uLaunchElf and SMS and several other applications on the memory cards and they run without issues.
However, I when I try to run the FMCB installer (via uLe) from any USB stick it just displays a black screen and hangs there.
I don't have swap magic or any other of those apps, and I don't have any of the original games that are known to work via the swap+disk copy with modified ELF method. Of course, if I disable the modchip I can't run uLe to run the FMCB installer. Oh well...
Does anyone have a zip file with the contents of a 8mb MC with a FMCB installation known to work on this model of ps2 so I can dump it on the MC?
Or, is there any other way around to make the installer work in my console?
Thanks!

Are you sure you have all the required files, in the right folder (install folder) on your USB Drive?
What type of USB drive are you using?
If it Kingston, it is damn near non compatible with PS2's...

I downloaded everything a couple of times just in case. I tried it with a Kingston USB stick, a Sandisk USB stick and an external USB hard disk to no avail...

Forget about it, managed to make it run!
Now I've got the menu running perfectly with the modchip disabled!
Thanks and sorry!

Strange thing what happened...
After about an hour of trying to install FMCB and giving up, I fired up Enthusia Racing and played for a while. About 30 minutes later, I decided to try the installer again and it worked!
Then I realised what was wrong: For some reason, the FCMB installer refused to run on my PS2 unless a disc (any disc) was on the DVD drive!

This is unusual, but at least it works. It used to do that when I would run HDLoader.

Yes, it's weird, it was a lucky coincidence what made it work. If I just went to bed yesterday instead of trying once more (forgetting I left a disc on the drive) then I'll be questioning my sanity today...
I think i may install a switch on the modchip ground pin to hard-disable it at will: it's a pain to turn on the console, hold start to disable the chip, and then reset it for FMCB to run...

I know that this problem has now been resolved, but are you certain about Kingston USB drives being incompatible with the PS2 djflexmaster79? My USB drives dedicated to mainly PS2 usage are all Kingston (of varying sizes too) which I use almost daily with the PS2, and they work just as good as any other brand. I haven't had even one incompatibility.
