Does FMCB allow you to boot from the memory card without a ps1 game inserted? Would I be able to connect a hd to my computer, copy over games, and install hdloader on the memory card with FMCB and be able to boot the games without having to use anything in the optical drive? I have 2 fat ps2's that have had the lenses crap out, and I am wondering if I can just make those into game machines without any kind of hardware mods...
I do have one working ps2 to be able to copy stuff to the memory card, just wondering if I'll be able to use the exploit in a ps2 without a working lense.

You got it.

Yep. just borrow someone's ps2 that can read to do the initial install on the first memory card. after that, the laser will be completely moot.

brings me to my above comment. if you don't have one wit ha working laser for the first install, you won't get it done. If you don't have access to one, why not take advantage of the FMCB install thread?
