mcboot 1.5 and PS2 discs

Am I right in saying that mcboot 1.5 should be able to load a "real" PS2 disc without having to remove your memory card before starting up the PS2 ?

Yes,.
You can use Fastboot to direct start an inserted disc (if you can handle the CNF, or use sulokus configurator), or load it through the hacked PS2-OSD(SYS). <-- The PS2-Browser with the "swirling electrons", which originally starts up.

Btw.: You also could do that in old versions, using unofficial LaunchELFs (formerly known as "uLE") function "PS2Disc", to load your games.

So could you have ESR as your boot.elf and auto_boot disc set to 1 so that it will boot real PS2 discs and backups ?

Yes (it should), but this way it will hang on a black screen at the END, if no disc is in.
ESR doesn't reject to OSDSYS.

Just press a button on power-on/reset, which is not mapped to an other ELF (i.e. X, O, after standard-install) and you will go to the hacked OSDSYS.

Btw.: Take note, that you name it correctly. ;)

Ok, just installed mcboot 1.5 and used the config app to set up the cnf file so that it boots PS2 discs and backups (via ESR) with ulaunch.elf mapped to the x button and it works like a charm.:)
This, for me, was the only thing this awesome hack was missing.

mant is working on a modified ESR to make it load patch games automatically instead of having esr in boot.elf or pressing a button to make elf boot.
