Maybe my question has been posted else where. Still gonna ask.
Does any body know if there exist somekind of an icon for elfs to make it a little bit nicer browsing in the memory card?

Great thanks for helping me out on the cosmetics of FMCB. Managed to apply a nice skin on uLE...not made myself, though I got some templates just incase. That tutorial you linked me helped a bit. Still uncertain though.
I wanted an icon that could be associated with the elf file so instead of a corrupt file it would be my custom made file showing up for every elf I got on the MC. What I have managed so far following the description is to make a folder that show up as an icon and that is actually very nice, it looks very good. A little big... icon maybe, don't know if one can make a smaller one.
But take a look at this:

    http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?pag..._tutorial.html

"It can be frustrating to know which a real corrupt file or a folder you want"

With this quote I want to say.. is it possible to associate with file type and not just a folder? Can not seem to find exakt lines that describes this.
There is no knowledge that is not power

And I need to read what's on this PAGE

Wow, i wrote that tutorial way back when i was still using KeyLauncher....lol.

Sure, you can make them smaller, but you would need to use modeling software, like Milkshape or 3D Studio.

I wrote that because sometimes its the icon file that is corrupted, incorrect or missing. I should have been a bit more specific, but didnt think of the idea people would try placing a file onto the root, knowing it would need 2 files described in the tutorial.

Only folders are able to use the icons, since they require 2 files, the icon (icon.icn) and the system file (icon.sys) for the icon.

Placing any files directly onto the MC's root will result in a blue block and say corrupt. You also cant use more than 1 icon per folder, so there is no way to associate an icon to a specific file, be it an ELF or otherwise.

The only way to associate an icon to a specific elf would be to create a folder, then place the icon and its icon.sys file along with the elf you want to have the icon for into the folder. Then place it on the MC. Of course this will take up a lot of your MC space to do this for each ELF you wanted to do this for, but its an option you can choose. It really would be a waste of MC space, since the icons are only used by the MC browser and Sony HDD Browser.

Thanks JNABK. Always good to hear from the author. I guessed it was liked you described. Just wanted to be absolutly certain about my possibilitys.
Still want to say that it was a great tutorial and it looks nice browsing the MC. But in my case it's enough having just a folder for ELFs.
It's actually easy making a nice bmp in word if one got a good word to bmp converter.

I assume you are using ffgriever's ps2ic (XPS<->PSU converter) app to convert the 3D Studio Max files to a PS2 icon? I've also been playing around with the Milkshape PS2 Icon Importer/Exporter plugin, but of course it's supported features are very limited.

ive only been using the Milkshape app with the plugin, i did grab ffgrievers ps2ic app before, but never got around to using it. I have 3D Studio Max , but havent used it in a long time and got new PCs since then. I havent installed it to any of the new PCs and so i havent had the chance to use ps2ic yet.

All the icons ive made were either simple ones using bmp2icon and more recently, with milkshape, yea its very limited.
I would like to experiment with 3D Studio Max and ps2ic, but i really havent seen much of a need for ps2 icons enough to re-learn the software. The short interest during the Free McBoot development was enough to grab my desire to make them for the project. I had planned at one point to make a tutorial for making icons with Milkshape, but never got around to it. I did write a 'mini' tutorial somewhere here in one of the threads for someone interested in using Milkshape , but dont remember what forum section or i might have PMed it to someone asking , cant remember.

ooh, great moment for me to hijack the thread a little bit :P

i was always wondering how i would have to make icons for multiple ELF files in one folder?

for instance, i have matrix chip, wich DEV1 boot files rely on 3 files (BOOT.ELF, BOOT1.ELF and BOOT2.ELF) in 1 folder called BOOT.

of course these files show up as corrupted data in the ps2 browser.

can i 'link' certain icons to s specific BOOT.ELF file ?

or is it all about renaming them ? i.e. :

    BOOT.ELF
    BOOT.ico

    BOOT1.ELF
    BOOT1.ico

    greetz,

You cant use an Icon in a sub-folder either, as the MC browser will ignore any subfolders, so it would be pointless.
