    yo,

the ps2 community is really active and alot people are working on really awesome projects... but why dont you merge into 1 project? and create something like xbmc on xbox... the PS2MC xD

You would have ULE as FileBrowser... and App Launcher... You would have FMCB for Installation Routine.. And ESR for launching Backups... SmS would be for Audio and Video Playback...

Such an "OS" would really Rock and people could start to Skin it in a OS Fashion way..

    Just my 5 Cent

    peace

I had an idea about that.

Something similar to "ESR-Path"-Function for DVD-Videos and PS2-Disc.
If you insert a DVD-Video, or Fake-DVD-Video-Disc into your PS2, it could start an app instead of the DVD-Player.

Thus, people could map SMS as DVD-Player-Replacement (but lags IFO/BUP-Support for that case, in my opinion... :-/ ).

    Same goes for PS2-Discs.
If one is inserted, it could instead also start e.g. cogswap.

    Just a thought,...
But I don't expect it to happen, or not now.

I generally mean something like MyPS2 but with all Devs into 1 Project.. Because if they would work under 1 Project, more Brains would be behind it so new Solutions would be created.. And a better Sourcecode because each of them would share knowledge under them.. So ergo a better and smaller Sourcecode would be done.. And a kickass OS Replacement

Things doesn't work like that, to this day the development group for PS2 still trying to figure things out in PS2. Other problem is that PS2 can't handle xbmc structure, all you need have to be done by hand in PS2, Xbox has the XDK, if you remember that is a before and after XDK in Xbox home brew life.

Hardware limitations is another issue, memory restrictions so on and so forth.

But would be nice to have xbmc like in PS2, but this is a dream that will not come true.
I have and use xbmc as my main dashboard:

If you want XBMC in a console, get a xbox.

    @katananja
i had xbmc ^^ in early stage, then i sold my xbox ... nvm ^^

so, what i mean is not a xbmc clone on ps2, what i mean is to merge fmcb, esr, ule, sms into 1 project.. where you have 1 gui for all, one installation and so on... and if the would merge, they would have kinda a little xbmc.. because thanks to ule -> picture and browser support, thanks to sms a videoplayer, esr would be for booting backups...

@berion, why 5 mb.. i think it would be less then now if you have fmcb, esr, ule, sms installed because they could lower there sourcecode because they would "generaly" use the same libs or functions and so on.. because even if you think about the splash screens, you would have only 1 and so on...

    thats what i mean

I know exactly what you mean.

He wants the programmers here at psx-scene to form a team, rather then build and release everything seperatly. Like one big elf that offers everything, and is all skinned similar.

Things doesn't work like this, i remember a long time ago to make a mistake telling the people to take uLaunchELF to another level like tranforming it in uLaunchELF Advanced, to include formating tools and other things.

To us that doesn't know how to develop for PS2 migh be simple to ask this or that, but who does develop for PS2 is another history. PS2 is a dying console, his life cycle will end and so development because as the developers say, is hard to develop for PS2, in other hand development for Xbox goes strong because they say is very easy to develop, since is just a PC like hardware.

I dont think you fully understand. What he is asking is not diffucult at all, just simply up to the programmers.

And the Dreamcast has been dead for more than five years, yet there are still programmers, and even teams developing new homebrews for it all the time.
