Hi everyone, first post here :-)

I have a Japanese PS2 slim which can obviously only play JAP games. Now since I have a very nice collection of PAL games, and I would like to use the JAP slim as my primary system (very sweet color), I will need to find a way to play other region games on that system. I don't want to do a hardware mod since I don't like taking my systems apart, and I don't want to swap discs everytime I want to play a game either.

Someone recommended Free McBoot for me, so after reading through it I think I require this:

    - Someone with a Japanese PS2 who can do a Multi-Version intall of FMCB on my memory card.

One thing is still confusing: It says in the FAQ
"For SCPH-9000xx PS2 with a datacode of 8B and earlier will work. Datecode of 8C, the bios must be version 220, not 230."
My JAP one has SCPH-90006, and I searched it for a datacode - there is none.
Does anyone know what this means? Should I just try it or is there a risk of bricking my system?

It is so annoying that I cannot just play my PAL games on the JAP system. Stupid region locks.

Anyway, I would greatly appreciate if someone could answer my questions, and then hope that someone is able to create a JAP Multi-Version card for me.
    Thanks!

Ok the date code should be right on the sticker next to the model number if the sticker is missing well you can try FMCB but it might not work on it
But FMCB will never brick you PS2 never heard of it happening even once so up to you try to find someone close and have them install Unofficial FMCB 1.8c
so you can use it on any model that can boot from MC so you can use it on your pal and jap version

    V10 SCPH-50001 with Network adapter SCPH-10281 500 G HD
    PSP 3000 9G 6.20 PRO CFW Perm
Unofficial FMCB v1.8C OPL self compiled HD and SMB preferred
Is how all good gaming systems came to be

yeah, it really doesn't show any data code. (see attached picture)

ok, but if it is safe to try, I don't risk anything. So with the unofficial 1.8c it doesn't matter if it is a JAP or a PAL ps2 that creates my FMCB memory card? that is very helpful, thank you!
now I just need someone from Germany who is nice enough to do this for me :-) I'll have a look in the thread above.

With the unofficial I could make you one in the USA and let you use it on your pal and Japanese model

Looks like you might have found the first unit sold of 90000 series lucky you

You do know your photo is upside down

thanks for the offer! I just googled and found a german forum where someone offers the service. So I am just going to use this since it will save some postage and waiting time.

thats very cool, didn't know that. even more of a reason not to modify the system itself.
I got it as a present a couple years ago, it was bought from play-asia directly when it came out I believe.

It's a SCPH-90006 (HK/SG model). The consoles here do not have datecodes! D:

It's not a Japanese console at all. It might have the NTSC-J region, but a true MG region lock will prevent Japan-only software from running on a region 06 system.

And it's an abomination that plays Japanese games, but yet does not have the Japanese language option and cross is the select button in the OSD.

    Who knows?
He has to find out the BIOS version or attempt to get the console to boot FMCB at least once....

I gotta quote RandQalan here: learn something new every day ;-) I was under the impression it was a JAP console, and since my japanese "Nights" game works well I never questioned that. Gotta ask my husband again if he finds the order sheet from play-asia.

btw, it's "she" *g* I found someone in a German forum who will prepare my card with a 1.8c Multiversion install of FMCB. I probably won't get it before the weekend since I am away on business, but once I got it I will try it out and let you guys know if it worked or not.

are there other differences besides the true region lock and the swap in X/O button functionality between the systems? Are they manufactured elsewhere, different quality ect.? I gotta say I don't mind that "x" is the select button, I just remembered that was one of the reasons I put a CFW on my PSP I got from Japan - so I can switch it to "X" = select instead of cancel.
