Ok so here's the sitch. I have a V9 NTSC PS2. I'm trying to install Free McBoot to enable homebrew but I'm running into some problems. My PS2 has a modchip (don't know which one it is since I didn't put it in) and I know it can read burned games. Now, I followed the "CD Burn" guide on FMCB's site and did exactly everything . Burned the iso to a DVD in 2x speed with Imgburn. Put it on the PS2 and it just keeps kicking me back to the "this ain't no Playstation disc" screen. Now, from what my cousin told me (the one that put the modchip in) he said (this was like 4 years ago) that the PS2 might sometimes not play the disc, and even sometimes with original games recently, it wouldn't recognize them. Normally, a restart fixes the problem. But not this time with this DVD.
I need a secure method cause I'm running out of DVDs, have only 3 left and I can't afford wasting anymore since I have some games I need to put into them. Some quick advice would be appreciated. Thanks inadvance

if its modded why not just get ulanch elf and play it on there?

secondly why do you want freemcboot if your ps3 is chipped?

lastly if you need it that bad they do have a free mcboot section on where you mail in your memory card and they do it for free (you pay for shipping)

Because I want homebrew, and I don't wanna mess around with DVDs and wanna try loading from HDD.
But isn't FMCB and uLaunchELF the same thing? I'm really new to the PS2 scene and I'm making an effort to get updated.
EDIT: Wikipedia actually came in handy relating to scene stuff. Ok, so FMCB is an exploit. Now, how do I load homebrew? How do I install uLaunchELF? Sorry for the noobie questions lol

Still no help. I already navigated thru those topics. I just want to know is how can I get uLaunchELF installed or how does it work. How is it supposed to be installed.
EDIT: Another thing is that I don't know which modchip is installed. I just know it was installed before December 2007

uLE you do not need to install it can be run off of DVD USB stick USB HD internal HD MC even over SMB on most operating systems
and as to how their is like SOOOO many ways but if you could find out if your mod chip has DEV1 then you could boot it from MC or USB not problem
but you have to know what mode chip first!

Like I said, I do not know which modchip I have. So I can just put uLaunchELF in the root of an USB device and I'm set to go?

On most mode chips yes but some require certain button presses to boot DEV1 but you could try to boot with none and work your way thru each button

Ok, I just extracted from uLaunchELF to a USB memory but nothing happened. I copied to the root LAUNCHELF, SMB and BOOT but the PS2 didn't react when I plugged it in.
