Hey all,
I installed mcboot 1.6 on my slim Ps2, but i cant figure out what to do next?
The free mcboot splash screen comes up when i turn on the console, then it goes from there straight to browser screen(white background, where you would select a memory card or game).
I dont seem to have any more options on my menu screen or anything, anybody know what im doing wrong? Installed using Action replay max media player using a usb stick thats formated to fat 32
Thanks in advance

That's where you should be, you just have to select the memory card that has Free MC Boot on it, and then it will bring you into the menu screen where you can select whatever applications you have installed. You can configure Free MC Boot to automatically start up at this menu screen. It's setup the current way by default, because if you have a disc in your PS2, it will load the disc instead of sending you to the menu screen (work around solution). So if you want to change this, first go to the menu screen after selecting the memory card I mentioned above. Then you need to go into the Free McBoot Configurator, then under "Configure OSDSYS Options" and change the "Go to Browser" option to "OFF". This you can also find in the Free MC Boot Tutorial here (half way down the page).
EDIT: I believe the next version of Free MC Boot will have a fix for this issue with having to start up in the PS2 memory card browser by default.

Just press the O button and it takes you to the Sony main menu {OSD screen} and then you can select any of the apps that were properly placed in the INSTALL folder during the installation.
Selecting the Memory Card from the MC Browser menu will only show you the MC's contents as icons.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies.
When i get to the white background screen I select the memory card, as in just click into it? Cause that seems to bring me into as if i was browsing a normal memory card (but it does have the mcboot file on it and two mcboot folders, but clicking them does nothing)
When i press circle (i have a EU ps2 so thats back) i just get to plain ol ordinary ps2 screen, on both this slim and a phat one.
i attached my folder layout of my memory stick if it helps. I also inserted the eu file into the inject folder and renamed it
Cheers again

Yea I'm sorry about that, I forgot exactly how to get back to the main screen, because I'm at work and couldn't double-check to see how it was done. You just need to press the Circle (O) button like JNABK explained.

I dont know if its just me but when i put in my memory card and hit the reset button as soon as i restart my playstation i hold down the ( O ) button and then the Free McBOOT logo apears. If i dont hold down the ( O ) at startup then it will just boot up regularly and give you the ordinary browser screen. Dont wait until it boots up to hit O hold it down as soon as you reset it. Sometimes i have to reset a couple of times before it boots up.

@Kevsmif80: sounds like there might be a problem with your memory card, or where you placed the "BOOT.ELF" file on your Memory Card, which is causing this to happen. If I was home right now to test, I might be able to figure out why that is happening. I personally have never had that problem and never have to hold the Circle (O) button on starting up my PS2. I only need to press Circle (O) to exit back to the PS2 Browser screen. Although, I have my Free MC Boot, on my second ps2 without a modchip, now configured to just bring me straight to the PS2 Browser screen, which it does flawlessly every time my PS2 starts up. Also note that witnessmenow did say he was automatically being sent to the Memory Card Browser, which is how Free MC Boot is supposed to work by default.

I must have mis understood him PS2 Dragon. I was thinking he was just getting the regular Ps2 boot and was tring to run FreeMcboot by entering into his Memory card. Yes if I hold down the (O) i will be automatically taken to my memory card as well but if i load in my memory card and just power up my playstation then it just does the normal sound and the regular Ps2 boot loads. I followed the exact instructions line for line. I just have to fool with it to get it to work sometimes. I think my problem is I am using one of those knockoff sony cards that are like $10 for a 64mb card from china. The guide says not to use them but hey its the only one i have lol
at least that is what I am assuming causes this. once it boots up i have no problems using ESR, Uluanch, or running nes emulators from my USB.

When i press circle it brings me to the normal playstation menu screen. And it only has the two standard choices "browser" and "configuration"(?).
Is there something wrong with my folder layout on my usb key or anything?
I've tried on two official sony 8mb cards and both are giving the exact same result.
The mcboot install is just over 1mb (1.3mb i think) So i think its including the elfs i put on but im not sure.
Sorry if these are really dumb questions!
Thanks!

No problem, there is always a chance you could be right, and caught some detail I missed. Sometimes things seem one way, but turn out to be something completely different, you just have to depend on the person reporting the problem to be as accurate as possible. So your help is appreciated.

I haven't had that much experience yet with other scenarios (Installed on European PS2) other then how I have my Free MC Boot setup (Installed on North American PS2), so there is a chance I might not completely understand what is wrong here, but I will offer what I think might be the problem. I think it might have something to do with you using the "INJECT" folder. Have you tried not using it at all?
Maybe you already understand this, but you really don't need to use that folder when installing Free MC Boot. It's only necessary if you want to completely replace the "FMCB's OSD ELF Loader with an external ELF file", meaning it will instead try to boot whatever you put in there instead of Free MC Boot, which is explained inside the Free MC Boot tutorial. Although, I only now just figured out what that folder was for in the first place, since I never used it when I did my install. So from the tutorial, you would of had to rename whatever ELF (such as ESR to directly load backups) you wanted to replace Free MC Boot with as "EMBED.ELF ", and also include the file "DVDPLE" (renamed to "DVDELF.BIN") into the INJECT folder (all folders and files case-sensitive on the memory card). So just re-install Free MC Boot and skip this step, so you can try and isolate what is wrong with your setup.
Also, when you originally installed Free MC Boot, did you use the "Normal Install" or the "Multi-Version Install" option? Installing the Multi-Version Install is what you need to do if you want to get Free MC Boot working on a different PS2 then the one you originally installed Free MC Boot on, but only if both PS2s are from the same region.
