I have a PS2 Slim and I am very sad to say that its lens is not working and can't be repaired. Today I came o know about Free McBoot. Can any one tell me how I can install this software for my PS2 which cannot read CD's/DVD's

im not into ps2 scene for a while but afaik you do need the lens to install the files to your memory card but im not entirely sure...things may have changed since then

but if you do need the lens try to borrow someones ps2 (must be modded) so you can install the files on your memory card....also the memory card must be from Sony and not some chinese clone

    good luck!

If you don't have a laser how do you plan on playing games on a slim? USB HDD's don't work and you can't use a normal HDD like phat PS2 users so what's the point?
    PS3 CECH-25001 Rebug 4.41.2 "Lite" 1tb iNt & 2tb eXT mM 4.40.00

USB HDD do work, it's just the game compatibility is not that great. The PS2 slim does have an ethernet port to play games over network. Setup is a real pain, but it does have higher compatibility than USB.

If I remember correctly, I believe that you can also mod the slims to accept a harddrive. It takes a bit of work, but can be done. Do a google search for "ps2 slim hdd mod" as a starting point to find keywords for a better search.

The more you know, the more you find.

It can be done, he just needs HD Combo and Free McBoot. His problem is his laser is dead so there is no way for him to get it on his memory card.

That aside, you can always borrow a friends PS2 and try to get Free McBoot on your card or use the install service on this site.

Yeah you can. There are a lot of methods to install Free McBoot onto a memory card. Go to freemcboot.info, click the installation tab on the top and find something that you think you can do.
