Install FMCB using SWAPMAGIC and disc possible?
Install FMCB using SWAPMAGIC and disc possible? –
I try to re-install FMCB after i formatted my MC without thinking...
Now i have some difficulties, i use the AR MAX method, but the only ELF file i've been able to load is SWAP MAGIC 3.8 coder edition, it seems all other ELF's fail until i found that one.
So my question is to know if it would be possible to load SWAP MAGIC using AR MAX (this works) and load FMCB installer or FCEultra/Ulaunchelf with it using a burnt CD-ROM?
Parhaps with SMBOOT method?
Also, is it possible to install SWAP MAGIC on my MC, so i wouldn't have to use AR MAX everytime?
Thanks in advance, kind regards.
If you can load SWAP MAGIC then you can install FMCB. I believe there is an ISO file with FMCB Installer that can be burned to a disk and launched from SWAP MAGIC just like any other backup. Look for it on the web. If not, it would be easy to make such a disk using CD_DVD Gen.
The SMBOOT method should also work, if you can move a file to your memory card. I'm not familiar with AR MAX, I'm not sure if it can do that.
As for installing SWAP MAGIC on your MC, you should use ESR instead. It will allow you to play back up disks (patched) with out having to "swap", simply insert the disk as you would a normal game and it works.
Next time you get a FMCB mc working, use it to make another FMCB mc! It's always good to have a backup.
I haven't included too many details, but if you can find the FMCB ISO file I think you should be OK. If not, ask for more details.
If You have Swap Magic, why do You want launch it via AR Max? It's non sens. If You don't have, I mean, if You have SM only in "binary form" (not an original disc) it's a good way to do it (but not ethical ;P).
Before launching SM, drop on mass:/ FMCB installer named as SWAPAMAGIC.ELF. SM launch it automatically (if version of SM is 3.6 or 3.8). If during instaltion, FMCB don't find external resources (like "./APPS/" or USB modules), copy them via uLE after instaltion. It's a cheapest and easiest way for You.
If you have the original Swap Magic disc, and the tools (slide card for phat, flip top for old slim, or switches for new slim), you can install FreeMCBoot (except on the newest 9xxxx I believe). It's really easy! You just need a compatible memory card (all Sony brand/Magic Gate cards work), and a flash drive your PS2 can recognize (needs to be formatted to Fat32, which goes against all of my formatting requirements!). Then, just load up the FreeMCBoot files on the flash drive (you can find the instructions on the FreeMCBoot site), and plug in the flash drive, and then start up Swap Magic. It will take you to the ULaunch, then just hit O for file browser, then go to MASS, then go to FreeMCBoot(dot)elf, and install! I would also recommend installing PSX Launcher for playing PSX backups (works fine for me, but you need a version 9 or higher, and the console can't be made after 2008, I believe), you just need the original disc (or another original PSX disc if the one you are backing up won't work).
Hope this helps!
