How to tell if a PS2 will work with FMCB
How to tell if a PS2 will work with FMCB –

I'm thinking of buying a PS2 at Circuit City's clearance sale, but I was wondering how to tell which ones are compatible with FMCB. The boxes are exposed, so checking the barcode is not an issue.
I've poked around a bit and it looks like any PS2 with a model number under SCPH-7500x has a 100% chance of working. Is that correct?
Also, Circuit City has both Satin Silver models and the regular slims. The Silver edition is about $15 less than the slim. Anyone got a reason not to pick up the cheaper slim?
Thanks

take a look at this note :
Note: Not all USB Thumb drives/hard drives/storage devices are compatible with the listed software. Also, on SCPH-7500x and newer, Sony has made changes to the USB hardware/software which can cause inoperability of the listed software with the majority if not all of USB storage devices.
Beware! Sony has created a new BIOS in the SCPH-9000x series PS2 models that negate any OSDSYS update using the DVD player hack. This means that after BIOS revision 230, Playstation 2 units will not work with FMCB!

what is the version of each one ?

I don't remember, but any type of PS2 with a model number under 7500 should work fine, right?

I went to Circuit City today and they're sold out of all but two 79001s. I know that kind of breaks compatibility with a bunch of memory sticks, but will it work with Memor32 alright? (You don't need a memory stick if you go that route, right?)

also worked perfect with fmcb+esr+ule ect....
i sold it few months back because i have a FAT ps2 with a hdd, and a ps3.. had no use for the slim.
you should be sweet if you grab the 7900x series

I just bought the black 79001 PS2 for $97... now all I need is a memor32 and some blank DVDs, right? (Oh, and can someone suggest a good type/brand of DVDs for burning the games onto?)
Edit: One more question. Is it possible to circumvent the region locks without hardmodding?

by region locks do you mean PAL/USA/JAP ect..? if so, then yes.. ESR will let you run patched backups from ALL regions.

That's good. I'll assume that means it'll let me play retail copies of imported games as well, right?
