@ All
As stated, by JNABK, not all cards will boot at exactly the same speed and are affected by a few variables which include age.
Three variables seem to affect FMCB boot speed the most dramatically.
1. According to my tests and others reports, Sony's and Officially licensed 8MB cards boot fastest, e.g. Nyko, Katana, Madcatz. Datel 16 MB, are slower, larger size are even slower than that, and Chinese clone cards are the slowest, size also affects their speed; 16 MB is faster than 32MB and so on.
2. On average, FMCB boots a little over 2 seconds Faster if the FREEMCB.CNF is loaded from a reasonably fast USB flash device.
3. The size of the FREEMCB.CNF will affect the boot time. 100 entries takes longer than 5.
I have personally tested a few of the different brands and types of MCs and FMCB USB flash drives, with results in the thread below.
http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59616 (Fastest FMCB 1.7 MC Tests)
I do suspect that smaller USB flash devices may also help improve boot speed, but I only have 4 GB and larger flash devices, so I can't test this.
I'm not quite sure if boot speed is affected by the use of the smaller 75k Slim PS2 75KB DVDELF, or the bigger one in the FAT PS2s.
I also don't know if the normal install boots faster than the multi-version install.
If anyone has a definitive answer on those questions, I'm sure the community would be grateful.
@ ajboy13
Since you have a v9 FAT PS2 you can install FMCB on a Slim PS2, or inject the Slim PS2 DVDELF file while installing on your FAT PS2. AFAIK v7-18 PS2s will work with that DVDELF, older ones will not.
* Then you can copy the FREEMCB.CNF file to the root of your FMCB compatible USB flash device.
* You can then use the FMCB Configurator to remove any unneeded entries in the FREEMCB.CNF file located on the USB flash device.
Also I'd avoid having two cards that have FMCB installed on them in the PS2 at the same time.
@ Mods
Has the speed increase from USB based FREEMCB.CNF file been documented in the advanced guide some where? I did see that the manual FREEMCB.CNF editing page says it can be loaded from USB, but has no mention of the faster booting.
No, i didnt add anything related to load speeds, but if you wish to take on writing up a page, paragraph or even just a sentence that explains it, i'll add it to the guides.Has the speed increase from USB based FREEMCB.CNF file been documented in the advanced guide some where? I did see that the manual FREEMCB.CNF editing page says it can be loaded from USB, but has no mention of the faster booting.
I just dont have the time to research and write it up atm.

I have v10 moded PS2(the modchip have dev. modes)network adapter and hdd and I use 64mb datel card.
Immediately after I press the power button it takes ~7 seconds to display the FMCB logo(I have 9 items in the osd)
Before having hdd and FMCB installed I had to wait at least 30 seconds before anything from the game to appear.
@ajboy13 is it 3 second more that long time?
Every time when I want to start some game from my hdd,I have to wait 35 seconds before the list to appear and then wait till I begin to play(all those logos, movies, loading from slow 64mb card and so on)
I remembered that I used modded ps2 slim for installing FCMB in my both memory cards before. Then used them in my fat.. I dont own ps2 slim now its was already sold so I use my phat and load uLaunch from my USB flash. I use also mcboot to load uLaunch...
I don't know if I'm right but maybe installing from slim and phat differ...
spud42 was right...I need to develop more extra 3 secs waiting...
Thank You guys!
Personally, im happy if it boots and everything works, i dont really care how long it takes in seconds until something is up and running.
Its only when seconds become minutes that i start to get concerned if something is wrong or not.
Another thing that is often over looked is the fact that when something is new to us, it may seem real fast since we are experiencing it for the first time, but once we are used to it, our brains already have an expectation to whats supposed to happen and things will 'appear' to take longer and longer since we are anticipating the outcome at that point.

PROBLEM SOLVED! YES!Since you have a v9 FAT PS2 you can install FMCB on a Slim PS2, or inject the Slim PS2 DVDELF file while installing on your FAT PS2. AFAIK v7-18 PS2s will work with that DVDELF, older ones will not.
thanks urbigbro
I don't have any idea about INJECTING DVDELF but I tried and IT WORKS!...It boots faster now like b4...
I used DVDELF.BIN 75kb
THANKS A LOT! urbigbro...

I've installed a FMCB with my standard setup (which include 75 kb DVDELF) for a friend who has a v3 (which was previously mine actually) and it works. I'm not sure about older versions since I know there are some tricks to installing FMCB for those. I never faced this situation tho, so... It is logical that using this DVDELF allows faster booting since the file is much smaller (I think I remember the v3 one being >1 MB).
Also, for the chinese cards, we already discussed this in this forum, and the income is that some work good, some work a little, and some don't work at all. Hard to deduce rules with that kind of product which isn't quite traceable.
