    Hey

Just wondering, if I could get my hands on one of these rumoured Demo Disks, would it be possible to perform the steps in http://ps2dev.org/ps2/Tutorials/TUTO...Demo_Disk_Swap to launch the McBoot installer?

I'm running an old fat PS2 I just bought, and only managed to narrow the version down to a V7 or V8.

    Any thoughts?

i think it would be possible, assuming you could get that exploit to run with the other file, you should be able to use another file aswell.... i would use uLaunchELF, rename that to GAMEZ.ELF and follow the rest of those instructions.. and then have the fmcb installer setup and ready on a usb stick, if uLaunchELF runs, browse to MASS, then run the fmcb installer.

but when it comes to doing the actual swap... i dont recommend using a knife, if you have done this before and are comfortable doing it then go ahead.

i made my own slide tool that works flawless, out of an old plastic casino membership card.. you could use any plastic card, as long as its about the same size of a credit card.... library card ect..

don't follow the measurements exactly, more of a guide... its best to trace out the design onto a piece of paper, and when you think you have it good enough tape the paper to the card, or hold it still and start cutting over your design

thats basicly what i did, i scanned and attached a pic of mine aswell.

i changed the design very slightly to make it a whole lot easyier to use.

on the top of the card where it runs straight and you have the ditch that hooks onto the leaver. create a wide slope leading into the ditch.

that way you simply insert the card on the far right of your console resting against the side, push in gently and then slide the card to the left and it will lock onto the leaver. once its locked on, you will know... then move it to the right gently, should be rather easy... and the tray will open.

it looks like there is a little triangle bit cut out on the top right of my card.... that is actually just white print on the card itself meaning insert this way lol.

    Thanks for your advice!

I did as you suggested and cutout the card - It worked perfectly.

Unfortunately.. the proceedure did not. The disc I used was a DVD demo disc as I couldn't find and other. I replaced as many of the .elfs as I could find on the disc - however, after I swapped the disc out and chose the 'demo' to run, the PS2 kicked back to the "Please insert a PS2 or PS format disc". I'm not sure if this is due to the PS2 being unable to read the disc I burned (Though I'm fairly sure it isn't, because non-executable content ran fine - such as movies and game data) or because it was detected burned media.

    All in all, a failure
I think I'm going to have to get a friend to lend me his modded PS2 so I can use that to install Free McBoot to my memcard

im glad you got the card working

im sorry the exploit did not work though..... perhaps if you manage to find the correct disc it will work. i assume it would only work on cd-based demos as that is whats said at the very top of the guide.

This technique is very old and can only be done using the original CD-ROM based demo disks.
perhaps if you put the fmcb installer on a cd/usb and take it over to your friends along with your memcard, you should be able to get going.

    Good Luck.

ive done this with karioke revolution party

    1. Select the demo on the menu and select yes

    2. Swap the burned disk with the original demo disk when the disk slows down

    3. uLaunchElf will load if successful

I recommend using cogswap instead of ulaunchelf, then burning ulaunchelf onto a separate cd
