Hi, I'm new to this site
Hi, I'm new to this site –

I moved to USA from Europe, I took my Europe PS2 (PAL) here, so I'm just wondering.... will FREEMCBOOT allow me play NTSC games on a PAL ps2?
this isn't the main reason why I want to use FREEMCBOT, the main reason is to play backups that I own.
Any help would be grateful, and thanks again.

yes it will as long as you patch them from ntsc2pal first unless you have a tv that can handle a pal signal then you wont need to ntsc2pal patch them just regular esr patched discs should work. ^_^

FMCB itself will not boot any backup discs, because that is not its purpose.
But the independently developed ESR program will do the job, and FMCB has special support for ESR built in, so that it seems almost as if the backup launching was integral to FMCB, though in reality it's not.
There are three 'hitches' though:
The first hitch is that ESR can only launch patched DVD-R backups, so before burning an ISO to disc you will need to use the ESR patcher to make a slight modification to the ISO. The patch is needed to make the disc readable on an unmodded PS2, and ESR is needed to make a patched disc run like a real game disc even though the PS2 bios 'believes' it to be a DVD-Video movie (thanks to the patch).
The second hitch is also that ESR can only launch patched DVD-R backups, meaning that CD games for the PS2 will have to be converted to run properly in DVD format.
The third hitch is again that ESR can only launch patched DVD-R backups (familiar?
), which completely rules out all PS1 games, since those can only be run from CD.
But the games you do run on ESR-patched DVD-R discs will work fine regardless of the region they come from. I use a mixture of PAL and NTSC games myself this way without problems. Even so, you may still have problems with TV signal compatibility as many (most?) american NTSC TV sets are unable to cope with PAL video signals.

Thanks for the support!
I've burned my game onto a DVD+R disc and it ran flawlessly. I've noticed something in your post, you mentioned DVD-R. Do DVD-R and DVD+R really matter ?

^ not really but some of the earlier models of ps2 dont run dvd+r discs i belive but most of the time dvd-r discs tend to have a better success rate at least those are my findings i guess it all depends on you and what you choose to use ^_^

Thanks again!
One more question! Is it possible to enable cheat codes somehow?

5) On the 'Start Game' menu, I inserted the memory card.
6) When the screen turns black, I removed the retail AR MAX disc.
7) Now I'm back to the menu, I inserted the backed up game and launch ESR.elf
8) After the 'loading', I get a black screen, nothing worked.
Without this method, the backed up game worked just fine.
I'm just trying to think of another way ... hmm
EDIT-
Quoted by JCDes
Copied "PATCHED_CB9.3.ELF" file to usb (to save mc space), modded the cnf to load CB by pressing L2, copied "ESR.ELF" to usb and renamed to "CB_launch.elf" (which is the file it looks for after selecting start game) and placed it in the boot folder (you can use the MC's boot folder or create a boot folder in usb) now after I'm done using cb it boots straight to esr and loads the game with the cheats working...
So I can boot straight to CB with the backed up game already in the cd/dvd drive, select codes, start game, tray ejects select ok again tray closes, esr kicks in, game boots with loaded cheats. There might be an easier way but I'm new to this so I'm just posting what worked for me... Actually I like it better than GS no changing discs involved.. LOL...
I used the hdl patched version of the cb9 because I could not find the regular one for discs, that is why I renamed a copy of ESR.ELF to CB_launch.elf...
Would this method work with AR MAX, since I don't have a CodeBreaker disc. Well, actually, I do but it's broken (very scratched).

No sorry it won't work.
Codebreaker is the only one to work this way with ESR.
And you can use Codebreaker ELF that is patched for hdloader with ESR.
I can't give you links to Codebreaker ELF, but can point you to a post that should help.
You should find what you need in this post. It was intended to use with memor32, but read post #3,6 and 8 and you will have to rename the BOOT.ELF to CB.ELF or whatever you like,so it doesn't conflict with your uLe (BOOT.ELF) on your mc if you have fmcb 1.7 installed.

codebreaker.elf ? How do I make it? I tried to find a patcher by ffgriever for it, but I can't find it.
