Hi, this is the same guy who had trouble swapping discs. I finally figured out to do it right, and installed freemcboot, but....I can't find esr. It's supposed to show up on the menu, but i dont have it.

    Here's what my menu shows

    system configuration
    Browser
    Launch disc
    Reload configuration

Please help me find the right configuration

Go here (unofficial LaunchELF v4.42) and download the latest version of uLaunchELF, found at the bottom of the first post. Extract "BOOT.ELF", make a copy of it and then rename the copy to "RESCUE.ELF" without the quotes. After renaming it place both into the root of your USB drive. Place the USB drive into the PS2 (I don't think it matters which slot you choose) and turn the PS2 on.

It should load uLaunchELF. From there you can move .ELF files (basically PS2 programs) into your memory card.

Now go here (ESR - public beta) and download ESR beta 9b.rar. Open it and extract the dvdv direct one to the root of your USB drive. Place the USB drive into your PS2 and copy both ESR beta 9b dvdv direct.elf and boot.elf into the boot folder on your memory card.

You should be able to add a shortcut to both uLaunchELF and ESR to the menu by using the Free McBoot configurator.

I moved both files into the root of my usb, but instead of loading ulaunchelf, it just loads the fmcb home screen. If it's any help, im using the noobie package

Just to clarify, you have all 3 files on the root of your USB drive correct? The 3 files are BOOT.ELF, RESCUE.ELF and ESR beta 9b dvdv direct.elf. Free McBoot may be case sensitive, so rescue.elf and RESCUE.ELF are not the same name.
