    So,

I just installed Free MCBoot 1.2 on my original 8MB Sony card, and it works just fine. But I noticed, that it seems to lower HDLoaders compatibility. A Few games wont load with Free MCBoot, but will boot fine with the indipendence exploit.

For both exploits, I am using the exact same HDLoader elf file, so it's down to the booting method.

Just to name a few of the games that won run (my favourite ones ):
    Guitar Hero
    Guitar Hero II
Guitar Hero II: Rocks the 80s

I also noticed, that other multilanguage games no longer run in my native language (german), but instead are english now. The Games I tried were GTA:LCS, GTA:VCS, Canis Canem Edit ("Bully" in U.S.)

there are presumably other games that will show a similar behaviour.

What could be the reason for such issues?

    regards Horscht

I noticed that Burnout Revenge stopped working for me in HDL with FreeVast. It will work if I boot freevast with a retail disc in the drive. Strange how that has any effect on a game on the hard drive, but it does. I assume other games will have this problem.

Using Free MCBoot 1.2b on 8MB Sony card, V4 NTSC console.

I tested Burnout Revenge with both the embedded and a separate version .....both worked ok for me. Did you set it to mode3 Mozgus?

Yes it's mode 3, like it always was. I tried other modes, I tried flipping disc control in ule. No matter what, it will not boot unless FreeMC booted with a retail disc in the drive. I expect other games to have the same issue.

@JNABK Are you using ffgreivers's NTSC runme.elf or the original 1.2c runme.elf? Horscht is probably using the original, as the patch is only for us NTSC users. Perhaps that is the difference right there?!

Also is Horscht playing the NTSC or PAL releases of those games?
I'll test these games with both runme.elf files, as I play them from time to time.

Im using the one that was installed with the Free_McBoot 1.2c. I havent tried using ffgreivers's NTSC runme.elf since it was working ok.

I havent tested any discs yet though, the lens on that console is pretty shot and doesnt load too often.

I think I know why some games don't work in HDL with FreeMCBoot. I hope I can explain it in english.

I think they are modified multilanguage games where some languages has been cuted. If you keep only geman language, it plays ok if the game knows your configuration language (german in this case). But when starting PS2 with FreeMCBoot (the same with memento) the game think you configuration language is english (or japanese or...) and if the english files has been deleted, the game can't play.

I hope you can understand my explanation.

Did you ever stop to think about the fact that the PS2/PStwo consoles were designed to boot games only by inserting a disc (or having one in the tray from an earlier session) at the start of a boot, the one and only exception being when you boot to the Sony browser and start a game from there. This could very well mean that there are some parts of the CDVD initialization which are only performed in those two sets of circumstances, and nowhere else. And of course the precise details of that initialization may differ widely between different PS2/PStwo models (like most other init stuff).

If the above assumption is true, then some PS2 models may be dependent on having a disc in the tray at boot, before running homebrew software that accesses CDVD discs, even though none of that dependency is caused by the homebrew software.

    Best regards: dlanor
